So, what does the speedo on the 9's register? If I'm not mistaken, my 12Ss registers 160, but I seriously doubt it could get anywhere close.

I have a 04 12. Hits rev limiter at over indicated 140 not quite 145, so I have been told. I would NEVER go that fast on a public road. This has been fast enough so far for those kids on there jap bikes, I know they can out top end me but they usually quit before they run me out. |

Fastest I have yet to go on my '07 XB9R is 100ish.... then I start thinking of my 10 and 4 year old rugrats waiting for me to get home and I back off. They keep me broke, but help to keep me from getting broken.
41 this December. I am too old to worry about what bike is faster than mine, as we all know most are anyway. But I would bet that very few are more fun to ride, or look as sexy. |

sword-9's have the same intrument panel as twelves, so 160, I've had it at 130 with some more but like you said I doubt it would ever see 160-maybe I can change out the gear ratios(chain) and head for bonneville? Be cool to see what a bone stock 9 would do with a different chainring set.
Thump-I've seen that bike, but never met the owner.
You know, there's lots of bikes that are faster, riders too, and while I have 3 younger than 7 at home too, the speed always isn't about that. I could care less if I blow by another sportbike, get chased by a cop, or brag to my buddies. There's something about (trying to) go fast that I've always wanted to do. Heck, my son is three and is learning to ride a bike sans training wheels-problem is he gets to pedaling so hard so he can go faster that he keeps falling down, so he's got the problem too Some people dig it(and are willing to accept the consequences) and some don't/won't. There isn't much in this world that people won't try to take from you-and sure there's better places to do it, but once again they will try to take your money to "let" you do it. I see a lot more cars doing "dumb" stuff than I do bikes-but that may be a statistical thing. sorry for the soapboxing... |

Correct me if I'm wrong and I may be...
The tubers all register 140, and the Xb's all register 160. Neither the XB's or the tubers will do all the numbers they have in stock form. I understand it may be from the window shopping stand point. The spec sheet riders would walk in and see 140 and walk out to the Jap bike where they see 200. Just cause a bike has all those numbers don't mean it will do it! |

Having too many numbers (too large of a range) actually makes it harder to read the speedo, and makes the speedo
less accurate. I'd like to see a change to a digital speedo, but keep the analog tach.
Speed isn't about how long you can hold the throttle pinned, it's about how much speed you can carry through a turn.
That's where skill comes into play. Unless you're holding the throttle pinned while negotiating corners ...then you're talking
my language.
Our bikes are not, and never were designed for "point and shoot" riding. While they do accelerate well off of a corner
they do not have the top end rush to compete in that game.
To get the most out of your Buell, especially the 9, you
have to ride it like a 250gp bike (2 stroke) and carry lots of
speed through the corners or you'll get murdered on the straights by every noob on a japanese IL4 sport bike.
Your Buell will not win the spec sheet races, or post the biggest top end speeds. That doesn't mean much in the real
world though, and it doesn't mean that you can't run with the japanese 4s in the twisties. In fact, if they give you
even the smallest opening you should be able to squirt by.
Staying in front when the road straightens out again will be hell though.
BTW if you are going out to "ride in anger" do me a personal favor and wear your gear. I'll owe you one. ATGATT |

54 mph is the absolute most scary speed, when you are on loose/muddy, grassed forest service roads. Want a real adrenaline rush? That a$$end of the bike creeping into your view around a ravine corner will up your pucker factor. Flat out speed, I will leave that to the GXSRs/Busa/Ninja/HondaRocket wanna-bees. Come play in the mud ;P No cops. No traffic, no old ladies in big buicks. |

I like to go fast, that's why I had a Buell and am going crazy now waiting for its replacement, an 1125R. When I was sixteen, I took my dad's company car, a Pontiac Catalina up to 120. Taken many cars to that speed and a little more, but only 2 bikes; a 1980 Yamaha XS-11 bagger(120-125 indicated) and my exB9R to 135 ind. The 9R still had more but I didn't.
I think at 53 I'm finally ready for a track day. I still wanna go fast, but not around bluehairs and suburban whores in their Porcshe and Mercedes SUVs. Oh yeah LEOs too.
Ride it like ya stole it.

Most all bikes and cars I have seen have high speedo's. I know every car I've owned (with the exception of a full size van) had a very high speedo. My last bikes did too.
Be cool to see what a bone stock 9 would do with a different chainring set.
Will a stock 9 hit the rev limiter in 5th gear? Changing gearing would only help if the power is there to push threw the wind. |

I'd like to see what my bike is capable of, but I'd want to be on the salt flats or something similar to do so.
That way conditions are controlled, no distractions, no on-coming traffic, and an accurate accounting of how fast I had gone.
As has been discussed here before, speedometers are notoriously in-accurate in the higher ranges. Then again, at least
we aren't stuck back in the early to mid-eighties where the speedos only registered to 85 whether it was on a srx,
a cbx, a kz, or a gs. My old 82 Honda Sabre could break 50-60 in first gear, but beyond 85 the speedo was "pegged".
Those were also the days of the >750cc tariff that was supposed to protect H-D from the japanese competition too.
The speedos were limited so that we wouldn't want to try to go any faster than 85 I guess? (It didn't work  ) |

Mike-that's probably my next mod-but I'll likely go the other way, I couldn't leg it out at the straights at Mid-O(I was trying to catch you dontyaknow), so I'll likely go with a bit higer(numberwise) combo. I'd think it would go into the 140's with a bit smaller(~2.1X) combo as I was still pulling at 130 before I shut her down the last time I tried. Hell it might go with the belt, but that is speedo marked, not timed to the thousandth, which from what I understand is drastically different. |

I had a 76 KZ 750. speedo would bounce around from 120 to 90-when I was probably only doing about 80 mph. I'd tell anybody and everybody I was doing 120 |

I have had my 2003 XB9R 144ish in Long Creek SC. I dont know the name of the road but it is next to a whitewater shop on the way up to Bull Sluce (for any locals out there). At least that is what the speedo said. |

Took my '06 xb9r up to 140 last nite. It ran so smooth. it felt like I was only doing about 120. I weigh 150 lbs. I think on a longer open clear stretch of road I might be able to get it up to 145 :P |
