10 weeks after the accident, when I t-boned the Honda Civic: Today I paid the deductible and rode away on the almost like new '03 XB9S.  Here's the short list of replaced parts: New Frame, New Swingarm, New Front AND Back Wheels New Intake Cover, New Handlebars, and a lot of left-side stuff. Newly re-covered Rich's Custom seat Plus new helmet. Later on the ride the Buell decided to flirt with a sweet young single Indian girl:  The RE belongs to a friend of mine. It was GREAT getting to ride the XB again. Although I still have neck pains, they were forgotten during the ride (except when I hit a small pothole...). One more thing: I upped my insurance coverage when renewal came in August. (Message edited by prof_stack on September 08, 2007) | ||

U4euh, when the '03 belt breaks it will be replaced. It's got 3,500 miles until its supposed wear time is reached at 15k. If it makes it that far, and with my gentle riding it should, then it will be replaced. Aaron, Yes, a dealer did the work. Kevin at Downtown Harley/Buell near Seattle did the rebuilding. I didn't know about the rear wheel needing replacing. Last week Kevin spotted some gouging caused by the tow vehicle when the wheel was chained to the vehicle. So, the total expense was over $5k after the rear wheel was replaced. That should have totaled it, I think. They put Syn3 in the motor and I was surprised that the fan did not come on, even after an hour in 70+ degree temps. So it must be decent stuff. I usually use Amsoil but I might rethink the expense. | ||

good to see a bike back on the road. must feel great. still waiting for my 12Scg after 4 months. dumb insurance company took 5 weeks to get it back from France after a sideswipe, now the dealer is still waiting on parts. insurance company wants to know why i have put the monthly finance bill on the claim. i told them im not paying for something i havent got. at least i have another bike to ride. like the RE as well, thinking of getting one to replace my 5 year old yamaha 600 | ||

"have you ridden the bullet?" - MikeXLR650 I test rode a Royal Enfield "Sixty-5" for about 12 miles during the Buell repairs. A trip down memory lane it was. A drum brake in front seems about as effective as using your feet. But the ride was nice with the springy solo seat removing the vibes. Definitely a relaxed scoot. Pretty high maintenance, though. | ||

Good to have you back Professor, take care now. Don't do too much too soon. I hopped back on my bike too soon, and a pot hole gave me two or three weeks backwards with regards to being fully recuperated. | ||

"Don't do too much too soon." - Glitch Good advice! I just returned from a 101 mile ride on a BEE-U-TEE-FUL day here in Seattle. After 60 miles I was fatigued and about ready to turn back. The mind wants to ride all day but the old body is not quite so sure. Guess I have to do daily "exercises" to get back in shape.  I forgot how sweet the 984 "lump" is when cruising in the 3000-4500 rpm range. | ||

Well, it seems for every positive, a negative sometimes barges in to balance things. During a ride this afternoon I noticed that the turn-in felt different, that the front wheel was more easily turning into the corner. Alas, at home I found a nail in the back tire. No pressure in the tire. Dang! Did it happen at the dealers? Tow company? or my 150 miles yesterday and today? Honestly, it was most likely by me. So, it will get a new rear D220ST on Tuesday @ Seattle Cycle Center. These Dunlops are great and have about 6000 miles on them with lots of remaining tread. Oh well, its only money... | ||

Picked up the XB now with new rear tire: same as the nailed one, Dunlop 220 Sport Touring. For my riding this is the perfect type tire. The gentle tire guru at Seattle Cycle Center kept the new rims new.  I put 30 urban miles, in the 80 degree Seattle heat. Not much fun, but I did get a little scrub on the tire. I paid $30 for a road hazard warranty that offers replacement for nails and such. If I don't need the warranty it can transfer to the next tire purchase or be used as a discount instead. Nice. | ||
