Maybe this has been posted before, but the 2008's look like they come with Ceramic Coated pipes???? and all have frame pucks. Two nice additions I must say.

We had this discussion just before Homecoming and I'm inclined to believe Spidey, since he did take time to ask about it at Homecoming.

BTW...Spidey, Thanks for getting an answer on that(even though You already knew.) Guess it's time to get the polishing wheel warmed up.

I was at homecoming and noticed the pipes. I didn't think to ask about them, but spent some time trying to figure it out myself. There seemed to be two different variants. Some of the bikes had traditional looking headers, and some appeared "different." It looked like the aluminum color jet-hot uses, but I don't have any facts as to what it actually was. It was definitely different from the headers on the xb sitting next to it.

Maybe it's something they're playing with that may come stock on future models?

Buell seems to always have something up it's sleeve : )

Here is a 08 test Muell I got to play with durring HC

Yes I was the first civi to sit on a 08 XB

this was Friday night BTW

I didn't ask about coating 'cause I always knew. A Buell engineer and I were talking about the long played out thread and laughing at the fact that every one was so hard pressed that there was a coating.

I couldn't get a pic but the new header supplier of Buell headers ships them to the factory now and the large pallet was all bare "silver" of Un-coated, bare, bead blasted steel...

+1...

the uniform gold is from having them baked in a kiln/oven at a specific temp I think...

Go to the buell site and pick 08 models and compare to the 07 models........huge difference. Maybe they test drove 07 models before pics to turn color, don't know. But pics are way different. The pipes on the 07 never looked like 08, even new.

the 08 hasn't been on the dyno yet. I watched a number of dyno runs at homecoming and the headers are shiney silver when wheeled in and bronzeish gold on exit. I was very surprised how silver they are in the crates from the suppliers.

I am posting to support spidey's statement.

We support Spidey also, he's are groups mechanic. I was just wondering why they looked so different in the pics, nothing really to argue about..........just amazed at how different they look.

Also cool that they come with Frame Pucks now.

no kiln, just motor. Exhaust gasses come out at over 1400* that is enough to turn the pipes gold after a few min.

The pipes do look different in those pics because of the lighting.

The lighting on the 08 is focusing on the motor, it draws your attention to the new features. While the 07 has a old standard motor in it so it isn't "highlighted" by lights. I cropped the photos to show the lighting diff.

You can also see in the crop that the bikes are at different angles, which would cause the light and pipes to act different.

Or they could have just rode the 07 bikes before hand, I have heard tons of stories about bikes used in photos for the website and literature...

They look different because they are different. I've been to school for 3d art and animation, the "lighting" hasn't got much if anything to do with the way the pipes look "different".

I don't know or care if they are in fact coated, unused, or stainless. :P

I think the white and blue looks great with the silver. It would be a shame for them to turn gold. If I got one I'd have to get the pipes ceramic coated to keep that look.

Oh.... oooo have 'em coated a dark blue to match the accent blue.

So what are the main differences between the 2008 and 2007 models (besides frame pucks and higher red line on XB12s)?

08 improvements include new improved XBRR type oil pump, new crank ignition trigger (more accurate ignition timing), new alternator (slightly less output, no idea why), new DDFI3 fuel injection (no TPS resets required), 1/4 inch larger crank pin.

Oh yea, and "bold new colors" on a couple of models...

My pipes were silver when I polished them. That lasted for about 1 minute before turning to gold after running.
