 I've put about 350 miles on the beefy 530. I read around the net and get different ideas about how much tension, or "slack" the chain should have. They range from 1.5" to .5" Of course these numbers are for the factory chain crowd. Whats the average chain conversion Bueller running for slack? And whats the best way to measure it? | ||

I would say .5" is too small. I would go with .8" min and 1.5" max. Best way to measure is take measurements of the max tension with the chain lifted up and the max tension with the chain pushed down. The space between the two is your "slack." Hopefully I did not confuse you even more. | ||

1" should be fine. Just check the tension and slack when you sitting on the bike also. I leave about 1" slack on my GSXR 750 and its been fine | ||

I have 14,000 miles on a Tsubaki Sigma X ring chain, size 530. It has no apparent wear. In the last 10,000 miles it has required 4 very slight adjustments in slack. and I mean vanishingly slight adjustments. I ride through a lot of gravel, dirt roads, and have done some long days in the rain, with no degradation of final drive integrity. | ||

Also use chain wax for lubrication. th stuff is awesome and does not get all over everything. I use it on my other bikes and makes the chain last forever |
