Hi guys. its time for me to put tires on my bike and i decited to powdercoat my amber rims black. i got a price quote today to do both rims for $200. and to do the rims, primary, stator cover and dash. all black for $475. does both of those sound fair? i have never had anything powder coated before. but the prices sound fair to me. what do you guys think?} |

Sounds steep to me, depending on what they are including for that price. If they are doing all of the cleaning, bead (or other media) blasting, etc. it's probably a fair price. I hear that the amber is a major tussle to get off of those rims, so that may be part of the cost quoted. That part of the quote (200 for the rims) seems good if they have to strip the amber for you. If I did all of the cleaning, bead blasting and other prep needed, My powdercoater would charge about half of that. But he likes me, I bring him his favorite malted beverage along with the parts. i can dig out what i paid but to do the primary, stator cover and dash for $275 is very steep. Off hand I thing I paid ~150 to do all three. that included media blasting and powdercoating. Let me know if you need exact prices |

I got my wheels media blasted and powder coated for $140. They did a very good job too. |

I got my wheels, fork tubes and bases done for $175. The place was an industrial powdercoating company, so it was no frills but effective. The jet hot coating for the header and Jardine was another $185. I did everything else with semi-gloss black engine block paint.

My rims cost me 300 to have them cleaned, blasted, powdered gloss black in the center and have the lips re-polished to a mirror shine. For the quality work that I believe they did, I don't think I overpaid. |

Evil_twin. do you happen to have some pics of your rims black and a polished lip? that sounds like it would look nice. so far it sounds like prices range quite a bit. could also be the area you all live in in the states. i live in california. im guessing i should expect to pay a little higher price. im going to stop at another local coater tomorrow and see what they say. more prices would still be great though just so i can kinda get an average price people are paying. |

i got a new estimate today at westcoast powder coating. they said $210 to do the wheels and to do the wheels and have the lips polished woudl be $280ish. i think im going to go with these guys. the process will be as folows. strip the rims, polish the lips, then coat the black parts. then a clear powdercoat. they said the clear makes the black look wet all the time ans will protect the lip so i dont have to keep polishing them. |
