Hey, I've seen alot of posts about guys losing Staters. So I was wondering if it's a good idea to change it out after so many miles or is it just a crap shoot on how long it will last. I'm at 16K miles

No, don't replace your stator unless you know it's bad -- it's easy to check and you get plenty of warning signs (progressively weaker battery). Plug in a voltmeter at the regulator and see for yourself if you're in spec.

And take a big whiff after pulling off your primary inspection cover.... Pheee Yeeewww!

Oh, and if you pull it early, send the old part to me : )

My tuber stator (running mobil 1 gear oil) went 22k miles.

Mine went 25K. I'm coming up on another 25K so we'll see how she lasts this time around : ).

It's amazing to me... Nearly 50K miles and I ride her hard... No real mechanical issues and I still get the accidental second gear wheelie now and then between turns...

Oh.... One sure sign of a failing stator is a strong smell of burnt primary oil when you shut the bike down. Smells like a cross between burning rubber, plastic, electronics and hair if you're using 75/90 synthetic gear oil.
