Is this the correct size Ram adapter for the left side empty mirror hole on a 12R (9mm)?

Ram adaptor

I'm planning on buying the 5" arm and attach my palm gps.

Thanks

This thread describes what I did using RAM mounts. Bottom line, I used a different ball mount than you presented. Note the special thread on the mirror hole as well.

Hope this helps,

Jim, thats exactly what I was looking for. THANKS!

What size arm did you use? I'm thinking of the 5", as I want to make sure it clears the windshield when I turn the handlebars.

Jim thanks so much for posting this knowledge. I've been riding around all this time with my Escort Passport 8500 X50 attached to the top of my master cylinder with heavy duty velcro. I ordered a proper mount with a HB1 base tonight. I also chose the 5 1/4" arm to get it up into my line of sight better. I owe you one.

Here's how I mounted my Escort with a Ram mount.....

I know you guys are talking about 'R's but I was just trying to say that the Ram mounts work very well and are almost limitless in their adaptability.

Hey Odie (and anyone else). How are you powering your Escort? I've got a 12v outlet wired to the battery (with inline fuse) located under the right side of the seat attached to the subframe with a hose clamp. I plug my power cord into that. Got a better idea? Sometimes the power cord gets in the way of my leg (Cord runs along bottom of frame up to handlebars) when shifting around in the saddle in corners.

I hardwired it to a hot wire behind the windscreen and grounded it to a headlight module bolt. If you need more info just let me know.

Odie: I was thinking of doing the same, but have you priced one of those "smart cords" for our detectors? I'd hate to buy one just to cut up. I've still gotta have a cord to use the detector in the cage. The 12 volt outlet only cost me about $5 at The Evil Empire. Any suggestions for alternative method of supplying power? A high-speed cat like you, I'd expect you're going to tell me you made your own power cord. Details please.

I made up a harness that just plugs up and did the splicing from there.. That way I can just go back to stock by unplugging the connectors..

I have a headlight modulator and a power outlet on a cord coming from my harness.

Please Be careful of wires running to your bars.. When I first did the mod some wire that feel down and wasn't letting me turn all the way..

The power cord for our Escorts has a plug similar to what plugs into the Ethernet adapter on your computer. Short of buying one and cutting the end off to hardwire into my wiring harness up front, I wouldn't know how to duplicate the connector.

Hmmm...just gave myself an idea. Escort Smart cord: $50+
Ethernet: $5 maybe? Wonder what the wires look like in the Ethernet data cable. Suitable to run power to my detector? Hmmm...I feel an experiment coming on.

Too bad I don't have the detector right now. Escort is one of the few electronics companies these days that actually does repairs for customers. I have had a problem with mine falsing lately (it didn't do this before), so I sent it to them to have it checked over and recalibrated. When I get it back I'll see what I can come up with for power. That is, unless one of you fine gents can boot me in the right direction with a better idea?

Tx- go to Escorts website. They have a hardwire cord that is like $10 I think. I bought two of them. If that doesn't work look on Ebay. I see them there all the time. Let me know if you need help.

Sweet. I got one! $10 plus $4.50 shipping. Thanks! Remind me to share my beer lavishly with you at MBIV. This isn't the first time you've helped me out.

I so love the Internet. I've gotten to where the only things I buy off-line anymore are consumables like fresh food and fuel.I bet my boss hates it though. Not a week goes by that I don't get something delivered to my office. He'll get over it.

Hey by the way, I got the waterproof box mount. Anybody try that one, or just go with the flat plate? I went ahead and got the box even though it was freakin expensive because the detector's at Escort right this very minute getting repaired. I suspect it probably had something to do with getting it wet a few times and bugs smacking it. Hopefully this will protect it a little better. Thanks again Odie!
