James just looking at the 07 9R pic above and it looks like Buell finally has black emblems so you could just order them from DaveS now. Last Year they didn't have any black OEM Black ones.

James,

Nice Powercat on the front of your car. Our Alma Mater is in 2nd place in the Big 12 right now.

It does look good, but it seems like quite a lot of effort and cash for appearance enhancements. You should have sent in the primary and cam covers for powder coating while you where at it.

Olin

I didn't see the rear turn signals, did you make them disappear?

Bike looks great, put a set of the small directionals on to replace the stock lights.

Nice job.

I painted the dash when I did the frame and swingarm. I just used the same semi-gloss black engine block paint that I sparay everything else with. That is also the same paint I'm planning to use on the case covers. I've been really surprised how well the paint has turned out and held up through the last couple seasons. At some point I'll probably take everything that had been painted in for powdercoating.

Bcord they are attached to the undertail. If you look at the 4th pic of everything powdercoated you can see the triangles that have the leds in them.

Yeah, Cereal it is a lot of appearance stuff, but I'm pretty happy with the way the bike runs. I don't need to spend a bunch of money building up the engine, or making the bike really loud either. Plus I don't want to worry about reliability. The only thing I have wanted to do since I bought the bike other than blacking it out is a chain. I just got another 06 belt at the end of last season, so I'm hoping that it lasts I don't need to put a chain on. I'm a little leary of having a chain with no cush drive or slipper clutch anyway. I don't know a ton about the physics of how the chain works versus the belt, but I have to think the Japanese bikes have a cush drive for some reason. I would think that a slipper clutch would make it better since there would be less backlash during deccel. Maybe I will try to get those two mods for next winter. If someone else knows more about it post it up. Thanks!

olinxb12r, you could always buy the black center chin spoiler piece that comes on the xb9sx models. That way you would not have to worry about paint chipping off from debris. I painted my center with the frame touch up paint to match the gray. It has worked out so far!!

You could also go with the primary and cam covers from any of the XB9 models. Thats what I did-- I love the wrinkle black finish.

eric,

yeah i think i'm gonna go ahead and rob the covers off my 9s to replace the 12 covers. i'm REALLY not looking forward to it because it's gonna be a big oily mess, plus i have to do it on 2 bikes! (love your bike, btw. those rearsets are suhweet!)

another question for all: are the top triple clamps on all the xb's the same? is it just the lowers that are different diameter? thanks.

Are you talking about that you are going to need to trade out triples if you switch your R and S? They are different in diameter because your newer bike has bigger forks and everything is different if you are.

Hey JoesBuell, here are some pics of the Diamante/Magna.

Here's a couple pics of a Diamante with the body kit that I've got sitting in my friend's basement.

For some reason I couldn't post these pictures from home. Hopefully I'll be able to get the body kit put on this summer, but I kind of spent all my car/bike money on the bike already. Oh well, you can't take it with you when you die.

The rearsets are Rizoma pieces.

You can get away with not messing with the valvetrain to pull the cam cover. All you have to do is rotate the engine down to pull the exhaust and as you pull the cam cover just be sure that none of the cams are coming with the cover. You can hold them with a screwdriver as you pull the cover off.

All of the top triples will interchange. The bottom triple is different between models with the 41mm and 43mm forks.

Olinxb12r, when you powdercoated your forks were you able to separate the fork lowers from the inner fork tubes? I want to take mine apart but have not yet. I did not want to disassemble before I knew if that could be done. If so, how do you do?

you do NOT have to rotate the engine to remove the header. just ask how I know : )

And yes you have to be careful not to pull the cams out with the cover.

Ericz I the inner fork tubes were still attached to the lowers when I took everything in for powdercoating. I'm sure it is possible to take them out , but I don't think it is worth the trouble..

I don't know about that...I think You most certainly do need to rotate the motor to get them headers out EASILY, and if you don't you will want to when putting them back in. Tight fit for tightening them couple bolts (DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!!!) It really only takes about 15 min. to rotate the motor once the muffler is off..done it about a dozen times and even showed a few how easy/quick it is.....makes life easy when doing headers.

.05 for what it is worth

I did not rotate my engine when i put my exhaust on either, but i did pull several things off to get to one of the bolts. It seemed the headers pipe came off the engine easy enough and the Force pipes i installed were a breeze. I'll probably do it the same way when i put a TiForce on it.

I dont think you have to rotate the engine, I think a stock header you need to pull the fan off and take the o2 sensor off from the top. Then you should be able to pull the header off. The Force exhaust is made a little different, the o2 sensor is from the bottom. So yeah I agree with you guys, no need to rotate the motor

I found it a PITA To do mine without the rotation of the motor, was going to Take the fan off and take that route but it was just easier for me to drop the motor. Way more room to work, without stuffing my hand in a small area to rotate a wrench an 1/8 turn at a time. I do need to pull mine off this week for some newer ones and will see how EASILY I can get them out without rotating the motor, It is also a good time for a plug/wire change when doing this.

I don't see how taking the fan out and then the 02 sensor is easier with that little bit of room, all bolts to rotate motor are in EASY to reach areas, but to each there own.

Maybe My stress factor is why I choose not to fight them out....I don't take stress very well...
