I'm a new rider and fell in love with the xb9sx and the 12scg. I haven't purchased one yet, so I was looking for feedback. Which bike would be best for a new rider? | ||

The biggest diff would be seat height. The obvious diff is the extra power. Also don't forget the possibly much bigger insurance bill for the 12 cuz of the over 1000cc motor. The CG is gr8 if seat height is an issue but, the seat is a board.The x call be lowered with a s seat and the cg can be raised (more comf) with the same. Bret | ||

Thanks. I sat on the cg, and I agree, the seat wasn't comfortable at all. Would the select seat be good for the xb9? I'd probably like a lower seat than stock. | ||

I have heard that the select seat has a gel insert or something that makes it very comfy. How tall are you? How long have you been riding? | ||

I'm 5'9", around 170lbs. I haven't been riding long at all. I've got an enduro 200cc, mostly riding close to home. I've been off road a couple of times, but have found that on-road riding is much better. | ||

height-wise, you probably won't want an scg, unless you get a city cross stock seat or something like that..the ride will probably be cramped for you otherwise. you will love the citycross xb9sx...it has plenty of power and is an absolute riot to ride... If you ride responsibly and have a good head on your shoulders, either the 9 or 12 will not be too much for you to handle.. | ||

ps...my insurance only went up $64.00 for the entire year when I switched from the 9 to the 12...with dairyland of course.. | ||

i have the 12scg and i love it. i am also 5'9" 150lbs. i think it is very comfy. i don't feel cramped at all. the seat is a little hard but it does break in a little. i just road 1040 miles in 3 day about a month ago. your but will get sore on the long rides but it's not that bad. i bet it would be nice and comfy on the select seat. you will be happy with either one you get. demo them both and see witch you like best. | ||

Thanks for all your input!! I've seen some 05' 12s and 9sx's for sale around the same price. If I had to choose, should I go for the 12s? | ||

Rugger - I just bought a CityX. Love the bike - I came from a slightly modded Suzuki DRZ400S enduro. I am 5'10", 185lbs, and I think the 9 is the right size for me both power wise and physical stature. I did not test a 12, but I think that the power is quite sufficient for me and I can't see out growing this bike for a while. Let me know if you have any specific questions that I might be able to help with. | ||

If you buy a new CityX, does the dealer still need to set up the suspension for your height\weight? | ||

Yes Pmpski1. Anyhow the manual will tell you exactly which settings you need on each susp adjuster for your weight. | ||

There is a difference in the way the 9 rides vs the 12 (oh, and depending where you live, there is also the insurance difference). My wife considered the 12scg for a while (because of it's height). I had her test ride it several times, on several different occasions. During the 3rd and final test ride, while she was out on the Scg, I decided to take a CityX for a ride - when I got back, i said to her "you need to test ride this thing". She did and knew then and there that she preferred the 9. We have both a 12 (Uly) and a 9. As much as I love my 12, the 9 is much smoother and less twitchy at low speeds. Sure it might not have the same top end, but you can get a speeding ticket just as easy. It revs higher, is cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, and looks pretty damn cool. Guess what I'm saying is, you should really try test ride them both - back-to-back if possible. I think you'll have no problems deciding which bike is right for you. Good luck -Jack |
