What is the land speed record for the fastest Buell? I have been searching, and I can't find the information. | ||

It is  . You know he's hauling ass by the vortex off the helmet . Just to note... One run was 208 as I recall, and the other was slower (wind?) and the average was 205 and change. That's how LSR works. I used to have a video clip of that run. | ||

I have a dyno sheet of that bike as well (at home I think) that shows more than 300HP . | ||

It's running a Harley-Davidson based v-twin engine with a great deal of power. Team Elves was formed when the BMW and Moto Guzzi folks got a bit mouthy about the V-Twin records they held and their perceived futility of a Buell running for those records.  The first year we went to Bonneville we were buys getting lectured not to be too overly confident and how tough it is to do much good your first time out. Team Elves was their with the purpose of pursuing records in 4 classes. The team was dubbed "the best organized team to ever arrive at the salt" with a whispered warning not to tell any of the big teams who said it. We left 4 days later we EVERY record.     The following year, the bike broke in to the 200 club with a 202.989MPH average. The following year it upped its own record. In the meantime, TEAM ELVES DOWNUNDER has captured records, on essentially a bone stock Buell XB12, at Gardinier Lake in Australia.  During one trip to Bonneville, TEAM ELVES members were allowed to use the pit bit, a Buell S-1, to make their own runs. That's why you will notice that something on the order of 50% of all members of the 150MPH class go in riding a Buell. Although the 200MPH stuff gets a lot of attention, the most amazing part is that Susan Wilson jumped about the team "pit bike" and captured the longstanding (I believe it was Carl's Speed Shop) record that folks have unsuccessfully gunned at for years. Read the entire thing here. These are some seriously fast motorcycles and Land Speed Racing is the fabulous world of "put up or shut up". Still my favorite moment was when Richard Nallin pulled up to the line and a snooty Hayabusa owner sneered at the Buell and asked Richard how fast it went....that conversation ended quite quickly with the Haybusa leaving with it's tail twinxt it's legs. When folks talk about how fast or how powerful their bikes are, nothing talks like a certified time slip and an entire shelf full of trophies. | ||

Awesome posts court....I am pretty proud of those guys for taking the risks to prove that Buells can do whatever we want with the right minds behind them. Don't you love being the underated guy?? | ||

Court Mate, Paul went back the next year and upped the record again 140 mph.(Thanks to the Buell Factory) I think we need to talk to Erik and borrow an XBRR for the next years event.(Any idea on cost of renting one ,you know a special fly/ride deal type of thing) | ||

Court, Small correction. All of the 150 Club runs were done on Aaron's M2 shop mule. I still lust after that bike. The S1 was the most wicked sounding V-twin motor I've ever heard. It sounded like a NASCAR motor when you whacked the throttle. At speed the sound was awsome. Oh yeah, the "big bike" didn't sound too bad either!! I felt so bad for Susan not being able to make a complete run. No fault of her's, or the bike. The physics of the event got her. When she hit about 145 or so, the lift generated on her helmet was choking her. She couldn't hold the throttle open long enough to make a complete pass without passing out. She got a new helmet for the next event and made the pass mentioned by Court above. Very cool. Brad | ||

Susan Wilson, for those of you new to Buell, is one seriously good high speed motorcycle rider. She cut her teeth as a Corvette Racing Champion and I had the pleasure of following her at "well beyond the posted speed limit" one day near East Troy. She rides with confidence and skill. The picture on "that other companies" website of her breaking the record is awesome. While you're there check out my, no running, S-2's dyno charts....yehowwwww! | ||

I'd like to take my bike up to the salt to get a 140 or 150 club hat one of these days. It's a form of racing I can still do! I'd also love to wrangle a ride on a Y2K (gas turbine bike) so I could get into the 200mph club. They have a push button 2 speed transmission stock, so no mods would be needed for me to do it. One of those long term goals you know. Of course I'd rather do it on a Buell, but I weigh too much, and my shift system is too invasive and expensive to install on someone else's bike. Like I said, long term goals. I'm patient. It'll happen. |
