Actually, holding the gas tank isn't a bad idea.. at least not when going hard at it with two up. Not wanting to stray too much here, but when done properly, a passenger with gloves on the tank, arms around the rider can feel the lean as it's happening and move much smoother with the rider, causing less upset to the steering when going into hard turns.. like on a track. It also helps when braking hard into those turns, since the passenger has more support.

The bad part is when they are just sight seeing and not riding.. then they don't know when and what it going on. This is what she sounds like she was doing (I read her site once a while back) and it was a borrowed lid, so I doubt it fit (but she may not realize they are supposed to fit).. etc. etc. etc.

As far as the initial post. I've seen that video too and feel the rider was a major ass-hat for doing what he did. Yes, there was obvious video rolling, yes they were probably trying to show off.. but if you know you're going to be taking extra risks.. well.. there's your sign...

Pretty girl.... that's gonna leave a mark. Some of my road rashes are 20-30 years old and you can still see 'em.

You can call this exciting, fun or whatever. Most of us have done dumb stuff when we were young that we wouldn't do now(hopefully) Some call it survival of the fitest(mentally as well as physically), right of passage and all that. But you don't have to look much further to see why our insurance rates are thru the roof on our "Buells" and the "poser bikes" get a pass................Charlie

I wonder how I ever made it out of my teens alive, and relatively intact.
Some wonder how I made it through my 20's.

I braved it and read most of her site. It looks like the accident really changed her life and she is trying to help others by spreading her story. We have all had close calls when we least expect it. She just didn't think, but you can bet she thinks about it now. After all that she got back on the same bike she fell from and still wants to pursue being a marine. Good for her Semper Fi

be gentle and think about this quote from her blog. we DO all make mistakes - and like randle said above, she does seem to have learned from it. i dont agree with or even like some of the stuff she's said or written, but when i read what i cut and pasted below - i realized how judgemental i was - and stopped myself.

D

"Whoever volunteered me to be the "dumbshit" spokesperson didn't think about the fact that I am a real person. It's easy to laugh at pictures of someone's injuries and think that it will never happen to you, but try visiting a skin graft surgury patient with third degree burns in the hospital. Think about watching your daughter, friend, sister, mother, wife, girlfriend, neighbor, or co-worker struggling to simply lay comfortably in bed because of the pain she's feeling. Imagine hearing her cries when she realizes she can't sit up or walk on her own anymore"

Yes, it was a life changing event for her. I pity her.

If you read her blogs before the accident you can plainly see she was heading for a "attitude adjustment" as my dad used to say. for me that mean he was gonna beat the tar out of me.

She was completely out of control. Wild partys at parents house ending in burgarly, sex in apartment swimming pool with I think she said random guys.

Sad story I hope she gets it figured out.

Buellgirlie, a part of me feels very bad for what she had gone through. I would not wish that upon anyone.

But, the whole part of trying to become an internet celebrity while at the same time upset with what people have to say is a bit much...
When I think out all these people posting crap on sites like myspace, I wonder if they know it will haunt them forever.
As long as archive.org (amazon) can afford disk space this stuff will be around forever.

hmmm.. maybe I'm just cold hearted but I pity her not in the least. She claims not to care what anyone thinks about her, but she sure spent a lot of time building an image on Myspace.

She is responsible for herself, and she fell off a bike and got ground up like a piece of meat. I'm sure she learned something from it. Just not sure what. She obviously has very little self respect.
