whats the highest readily available octane rated gas in cali & also, is it a credit card & zipcode, or leave card inside fueling affair, like az?!

i am riding from alberta, canada to cali for motogp .. we are used to 91, 92 & 94 alcohol blended fuels up here, also at altitude, being near rockie mountains.

also, are racekit pipe & open airbox likely to get tickets in cali??

paul.

91 is the highest octain I've found at every gas station I've been to, Lived in Cali all my life...Yep at most all stations (large name anyways) they accept credit or atm at the pumps don't even have to get off your bike...Go to the pumps with seperate nozzles for each grade though so you don't risk getting some lower grade fuel mixed in

Almost everywhere is pay at the pump with a zip code.

Why would it matter where you pay? Is it too inconvenient to walk inside?

Not likely to get a ticket for noise here. Any cop that gives a noise ticket either has a wild hair up his arse or is answering a citizen complaint.

Before leaving I only ran into a couple of check points on roads frequented by the local
riders and squids. Usually in response to noise or speeding complaints from the locals,
or some squid killing themself by hitting a car head-on at a left handed apex (dragging
a knee across the yellow line of course).

One was on Palomar mt. in 92 or so. the other was on the Ortega Hwy. Normally that's
where they'll hit you, if they already have you on the side of the road. I was never
stopped for "just" my Yoshimura pipe. I lived in socal for 16 years, and rode quasi-legal
machines for most of that time. "The nail that sticks up is the one that gets hammered down"
If you know what I mean;) keep a low profile, and you should be fine. The worst you'll
get is a fix-it ticket for your exhaust, and some badwebber will have a stock pipe in their
garage that they'll loan you for an "equipment check" if you find yourself in need.

Paul,

You can get 100 octane gas at a few select Union 76 stations. High octane gas is available at the race tracks also, but Laguna pits will be closed off to competitors only during the MotoGP.

Recently, some motorcycles have been seized, impounded and crushed for exhaust pipe violations. These have most been cruisers operating in residential areas of the central valley along I-5.

Never appear to be racing or doing wheelies anywhere close to Laguna Seca. Automatic impound and crushed.

Highway 101, Highway 1, and highway 17 will be patrolled heavily during Laguna Seca.

Never go over 99 mph. 100+ = impound and crush.

Just be sensible, and you'll be OK.

Jim

Jim, What is this impound and crush, I have been living in CA for 25 years(not counting the last 1 1/2 yrs) and have not heard of this. Sounds like a conviction and sentencing without a trial to me...

Used to be double the speed limit = (maybe) a trip to jail...

CA has been big on confiscation of private property without a trial, or even filing charges, for well over a decade now, ("zero tolerance")but I didn't know they were bothering with small ticket items like motorcycles... and crushing them as opposed to keeping or auctioning, as they do w/ land, boats, etc?

CHP have only recently started cracking down on street racing, "exhibition of speed ","wet reckless" driving, CARB emissions and noise violations. The only crushing we have heard of has been in cities in the central valley.

Be careful out there.

sunoco ultra 94 here....station 1/4 mile from the house.

Being one of the more senior (age) member here. I fully believe the straight pipe harleys are infinately louder than the buell race exhaust. And if your dumb enough to nail with a cop around well what can I tell ya.

well .. u got the octane i likes .. romantic station names to boot .. sunoco .. union 76 ..

we have petrocanada, husky, shell, esso, 7-11, & sundry ess than imaginitive names ...

pwdkshcnkkzzzzrr .. whats yr damage . i have read a few posts by u to various ppl & they all harbour mild irritation & invective .. get over it.

i have NO problem w/ zipcoding/walking in/being polite, respectful & damn nice & perhaps u shd lessen the burden u must feel carrying for america .. or, work for immigration, or the loca city bylaws office, so u can shoot pp for parking in a no-loading-zone.

i cme to love yr country, desire to live there & add to the experience & i ask a little question & mr. ascerbic feels the need to put in place, *the protocol*.

Jima4media,

who is impounding and crushing bikes and what Vehicle Code are they following when they do so? Can you link to any news articles or other written examples of this in the media?

Thanks.

Vonschlep,

whats my damage? I don't know what that means.

Come on down and live here, plenty of room.

I answered your little question, and will continue to answer them when I can.

Have a safe trip, friend.

pwnzor .. looking back i was a little feisty w/ u .. apologies .. my bad.

u were merely assuming i was another too lazy to deal w/ the way paying for gas is .. i must have come across all *goofy-footed*?!

anyway .. plenty of room .. aha .. tell customs that .. safe journey? of course.

i reiterate .. i just wondered what gas i can get - as i assumed, wrongly it turns out - that US gas is lower octane (well, cali *IS* known for restrictive emmisions related things)?!

also, i read they ticket for excess noise in UK & i know first hand in AUST. so wondered abt cali - once again, poor cali gets bad rep - re: noise pollution.

apologies, as i have no probs when i am PICKING a fight, i guess i was just venting on u for some unrelated personal crap.

forgive me.

paul.

I won't be at Seca this year, but if you're ever gonna be in Southern California, drop me a line, we'll hook up and ride.

As for having enough room, who cares what customs says. Just get a visa and don't go back. We never really deport anyone.

Cheers m8

btw... mildly irritated is an accurate description of me. I went to the School of Hard Knocks and they won't give me a damn diploma! I tend to be a bit vitriolic, but believe me when I say I try to use it defensively, and on the behalf of others.
