For those who think the mainstream magazines have an anti-Buell bias, pick up the August 2006 issue of Cycle World and check out their long term test report of the XB12S Lightning. It doesn't get much better than that.

"While its bikes by design remain outside the mainstream, Buell Motorcycles has certainly addressed the first order of business: ridding itself of the proverbial mechanical monkeys that plagued its predecessors."

"Plentiful amounts of horsepower and torque, a pleasantly comfortable ride, but best of all it has soul that continues to cry out to the true rider long after the ride is over."

"After 21 months and 22,000 miles, I can say my 2004 XB is a magic carpet on two wheels. This is a bike that you will never regret climbing on and falling in love with."

How's that to whet your appetite?

Very well written indeed. I think that captures the "Buell Feeling" admirably.

Hey that's quoted from an email I sent to Cycle World's web site forum when they asked for owner reviews. I've been PUBLISHED!!!!

I just sent the following review to sport rider.

I love my Buell she is a wonderful bike after owning her for 21 months and 22,000 miles I can say my 2004 XB is a magic carpet on two wheels. This is a bike you will never regret climbing on and falling in love with.
She comes in some serious colors as well.

Okay I admit it I am just trying to make Gowindward feel like a real writer by being the first to plagiarize him.

Very well put.

Thanks, Drake!

Bob, It's not like I have my own column. It's just a couple of phrases quoted in Cycle World, then quoted again on Badweb, and then plagiarized in a future issue of Sport Rider. Heck....It's not really that big a deal yet. :-)

I won't argue that the CW article was not bashing Buells, BUT, most of the "glowing" comments came from reader's about their own bikes.

CW spent almost the entire first half of the article outlining all the problems Buell has had in the past.

There was absolutly no reason to tell it's readers about "pre XB" problems but they just can't let it go.

Ah, but they no REASON to publish the glowing comments from owners, did they? Yet they did. They also pointed out how few problems they had with the new model compared to the old (and boy, did I ever have problems with my old Cyclone, much as I loved it). Total cost over that period of time was also very low. So stop looking like the glass was half empty. They gave a fair and honest review that was very positive. Most people only remember how much problems the tube-framed Buells had, so this article pointed out that may've been true in the past, but it's a whole new ballgame now.
