I'm itching for a new Buell this year (hopefully another Firebolt) but I'm curious about what the 07 model will have to offer. Despite some serious pumping, my H-D shop has no comment other than to 'wait until July 14'.

So whaddya think ? Are we looking at some big changes to the Firebolt or will it be another year of evolution ?

Oh yea !!!

Sales manager at my local dealer told me Saturday that they (Buell) are coming out with 1450cc, 135HP XB14R and S models.

Also said they'll have a bunch of titanium parts and will weigh under 340 lbs.

OOOPS, SORRY - Just "woke up", found myself typing on the keyboard - must have been sleepwalking !!!

My inside info says major blast/thumper update in 07 or at least 08. I'm looking for a high performing thumper. They have tested the blast powerplant and got 95hp out of it, only for a few seconds.

I think the changes for 07 will be somewhere in the following range:

(1) "bold new colors"
(2) 1 AND restyled plastics
(3) 2 AND minor engine tweaks
(4) 2 AND street version of XBRR powerplant
(5) 2 AND rumored water-cooled all new powerplant

It would have to be one helluva water-cooled motor - I love the uncluttered style of the air-cooled XB engine too much. I just can't imagine a Firebolt with a radiator, water pump and hoses.
A street version of the XBRR makes sense, although the bodywork would need some serious attention. But yes, I could go for that with some radial Brembos and Ohlins suspension.

They are gonna change motors and use the counter balanced HD v-2 motor with normal Buell type performance mods done to it. Plus it will have 6 speed trans. Least that's my wishes.

I agree with 12r a liquid cooled naked bike is ugly. not having a radiator and clutter is more appealing to me.

Well erik has done a lot of sneaky things with fluids, oil in swing arm fuel in frame, I can assume that if he went water-cooled he would hide it well, maybe something we have never seen before, and if its hidden , never will see.

If Buell made a bike with a radiator, I would put my money on the same location that the Britten had. Behind the engine, where the fan is right now. Of course, there will still be a fan there to help with the radiator! This location helps (with fan) draw air into the low pressure area above the rear swingarm creating better aerodynamics than without it.

As per what to see... nobody is quite sure, but you can count on new colors. I'm 100% sure on that one.

Ugly?... how I wish I could own this "ugly" bike

Buell has always had fantastic style with everything they make. Don't discount them as not being able to be creative with water cooling stuff. Look at how many fluids they've already hidden!

New colors for the Firebolt, thats about it I'll bet. Maybe a few minor tweaks here and there. I'm certain you wont see a street version of the XBRR soon, if ever.

I still vote '07 is too soon for anything major. It will only be the 4th model year of the XB platform which has received numerous small updates every year since introduction. We already know about the updated motor they're working with (XBRR) and it's too new to be released in street trim as an '07. My guess is that they won't give the Firebolt a major update until the new motor is ready, which is highly unlikely to happen this year.

We will never see the XBRR engine in a street bike unless it is priced as an exotic. The engine in the XBRR is over 50% of the cost of the bike itself. That is what they told me when I wanted to know about spare engines for XBRR.

Yes, that particular motor is very expensive.
But that motor design in production and street trim would cost significantly fewer dollars.

It's just like any pre-production or concept product, the first one is real expensive, the final product is much more economically feasible, both to the manufacturer and to the customer.

I don't care what they offer for 2007, it's gonna be 10 years before I've ridden this one into the ground and I'm ready for a new one. Although by that time if everyone has their way, a Buell might weigh 550 lbs and have a hybrid motor and GPS and clutchless tranny and drink holders and ash trays and electric sheepskin seats with seat belts and safety outriggers and DVD for the passenger in the rider backrest and be muffled quieter than a sewing machine, but have a 1000-watt stereo with subwoofer that old farts can nostalgically play the Drummer loop on.

could be the end of the DDFI system.

this system has had a good strong/long run. I think we will see a new and improved EFI system with a boost mode like mazda has on it's cars. probably dual o2's with a v-rod style intake. compatible with the RT for big twins and 07 XL's. new Ford style injectors for the off ideal stumbel newbees get. seat change. and maybe just maybe a another new belt.....

Well, we do something totally revolutionary, we could change the material entirely, make it out of metal of some kind. And so it would positively engage without slippage, we could use pins held together by side plates, or better yet wrap rollers around those pins. This would leave holes in our belt that would offer really positive engagement as we could use spikes, teeth maybe we'll call 'em, all around the pulleys that would stick into the spaces between the rollers.

I think they'll introduce a gas turbine engine this year and turn sport biking in
a new direction. Unlike the y2k it will keep current wheelbase and handling characteristics.

WOW, my pain meds ROCK!

I understand the new model(s) will be announced at the dealer summer show in San Diego 14th-16th July.

Jeez I hope we don't get chain drive, and as for six gears I only use three anyway
