I got a line on a used 03 xb9r w/14000 miles for $5000. I'm new to the v-twin market and like all bikes it will have it's share of problems with that many miles. What should I check for specifically when I go look at the bike? Or what should I ask the owner? Or should I even be considering this bike? Thanks in advance...

14,000 miles? No problem. My '03 XB9S has 25,000 miles on it, only issues had been a broken belt at 13,000 miles due to mis-handling during a tire change, and a clutch cable at 23,000 miles.

Just check the usual, wrecked, strange noises, etc. Maybe look at the lever end of the clutch cable to see if it's begun to fray, and ask if the drive belt's been changed. These bikes are pretty simple and very reliable.

I'm closing in on 55k on my 03 XB9R and it runs great. Other than normal maintenance (Fluids, Belts, Tires..etc) I've replaced the headlight mount and speedo sensor. (It had the old part# still)

Just sold my Y2K X1 for the same price with 13.5K on the clock.

If the bike has been well cared for, it sounds like a deal to me.

See if the bike has a service record. How many owners of the bike and how often he or she changed the oil&filter, stuff like that............Charlie
