i have heard alot about direct link but really unclear about which it works best on? Should i spend the extra money to get the race ecm, the once i get my exhaust get it mapped with the direct link? Or will the results be the same if i got the stock ecm mapped with the direct link?

Hey Americanmadexb,
Sup? Thats a good ? Some say no need to have or spend the $$$$ for a race ecm, Others say there may be alot of different I guess timing, and fuel related curves etc.etc, so like I said thats a good ?
I`m sure others will chime in here on this as well...

According to Al Lighton there is no apparent difference between the stock ecm and the race ecm other than what has been programmed into it. Save your money, program your stock ecm. The ecm I had mapped with DL is the original that came with the bike, it works just fine.

As Indy said, there is no operational difference, vice 1. If you use the stock ECM on a 12 reprogrammed, you must still either leave the exhaust valve servo connected or build a servo emulator (search it).

If you use the Race ECM, then you can completely remove the servo and the associated short harness to the aibox cover.

That is the only advantage really to the race ECM, as the fueling and timing tables are changed when reprogrammed, and most people start with the race ECM timing table during tuning anyway.

Thats about it

i also have direct link with the stock ecm. it's an xb12 and the engine light is also on due to no servo. no big deal other than the light is always on. will be getting emulator shortly to fix this. direct link is EXCELLENT!!! woke my bike right up.

Contact Al at American Sport Bike. He can get you the info that you need.

I do not recommend tuning the bike yourself! (unless you are a tuner and have access to a dyno) This is full control of the injector lookup tables, which means, if you hose it bad enough, you may not have a motor when you are done.

Contact Al with the setup that you have, he may have a pre-done map that he can program into your ECM.

if its the same ecm just different program! why cant the stock ecm be reprogramed to eliminate the short harness without the emulator like the race ecm?

Don't buy it Direct from Direct Link, you won't get Al's tuning guide with it unless you buy it from Americansportbike. Using his guide, I tuned mine with a wideband O2 controller and Palm data logging SW and the results are astounding. IMO the SW is useless without Al's instructional guide.

American

The race ecm does not have the connection for the servo drive wire on the connector or the internal circuitry.

The stock ECM does have the connection, and thus the internal curcuitry for it, and as a result the servo must remain or be emulated.
