Hey there, I currently have an XB12S with race kit exhaust, ECM, and high flow air filter...just like everyone else here, it seems.

I've got an extra header...I'm considering chopping it up and running it as a wide open option...if nothing else, for the sound!

Will I do any engine damage running wide open pipes?
Is performance reduced without tuning the engine to ZERO backpressure?

Is anyone else running WIDE OPEN?

I'm new to the Vtwin world!

it will sound awsome and thats about it, it will run like a@@ and the loss of back pressure will greatly reduce the life span of your valves.

The sound is absoeffinglutely effing BRILLIANT.

not to mention the japanese titanium system featured in *cycle world* ma g a few issues back - by tsubaki (or similar) ..

apparently it was TOO loud to recommend ..

u cld always just make a straight thru from auto parts store junk.

i believe a correctly tuned ecm & dynoed system make for the best power.

ack!

I had to drive home without a muffler once (Jardine popped the rivets) and, as mentioned, it ran like crap. Low end take off was horrible. Wouldn't recommend it.

It wasn't just the sound thing...I was thinking remove the can completely, remove chin fairing...and just slice the header out at an angle in front of my foot...shooting down and out...chopper style...looks like I'll keep what I have until I'm bored some day. After all...there's only 3K on the bike.
