My friend with the GSXR 750, says he want's to go on "Pink Slips" with you, or he'll also race title to title in the N. GA
mountains if you're serious?

I dont "race" on the street, and if your buddy has racing experience yes he will be faster and no I wont give up the Buell for some ego crap.

That being said if yall want to meet up and go ride in my neck of the woods I would love to.

Motorcycle Online did a comparison of the XB9R to a Ducati 900SS when it (the Buell) first came out. They were surprised to find on that particular road that the Buell would pull away from the R1 chase bike regardless of rider due to getting in and out of the turns quicker, which meant getting on the gas quicker and getting up to speed quicker on the straight due to the torque. Those straights were short enough that the R1 didn't have time to catch up.

I can't add much from personal experience except to say that I just find something more enjoyable about the Buell than the latest 600's I have tried, no matter how good they were on an objective basis.

Agreed!
But, Buell is not winning ANY races!
Against 600's!

The funny thing to me how exorcised everyone is getting about Buell's vs. 600's.

600's are entry level sportbike rides as far as price and power.

I actually think the literbikes are better for the street as they have plenty of torque and you can short shift them. Rev it up and you hit hyperspace.

I had the pleasure of owning a 2004 Honda CBR1000RR. Let me tell you..that thing had torque and as soon as a bit of revs came in it jumped into hyperspace! Very easy to ride in town. On the twisty back roads all you needed was third gear. That gear pulled from 25 mph to well over 125 mph!

I now have a Uly and really like it. Tons of torque and a blast to ride and of course more comfortable than the sport bikes.

But all in all that Honda was something else! Reason I don't have it is I tend to move on after a couple of years and right now I have an issue with my hip that does not allow me to sit on most bikes with the exception of some standards.

Once I get my hip fixed I will have another Jap. sportbike of some sort. That new Kawasaki ZX14 sure looks tempting! I'll probably always have a Buell as they sure sound sweet and are fun for bopping around town.

My two cents!

David

M1: That is the cool thing, you really can short shift the literbikes and hardly have to shift at all. You'd be surprised how much usable torque there is. You won't feel it pulsing in your chest like you will with the Buell, in fact they sound more like sewing machines than Harleys, but they certainly deliver the goods.

Can you still buy a Ninja 250? Really fun bike, but not much of a sport bike. Really sub-par suspension and won't take modern sport tires. But it is a fun little ride.

Of course they deliver the goods... The point is that at max lean the TIRE can only take so much goods... The Buell has PLENTY of goods to smear the rear tire all over the pavement (gently mind you) anywhere under 100MPH. If you like deep canyon roads, then you spend 80% of your time in a situation where power is mostly useless... Handling is the king.

Most new liter bikes, GSXR, ZX, Etc. make MORE torque than a Buell.
They also handle like a dream.
The '06 GSXR 1000 is so smooth & stable you can start from a dead stop in fourth, or use it as as a tourer.
Then go out & smoke the doors off a Busa!

Indeed they make more torque at revs not off idle like the buell. I rode a honda 959 and it was sweet but disconserting because of the rev thing the guy who owned the 959 was stoked. He never rode a buell before and was impressed that the bike was lean quick and impressive. I walked away with a better understanding of reving a bike into the torque band the 959 was a bike that was comfortable in the high rev range. The buell with it's low rev high torque makes it easy to ride fast, the 959 has a higher learning curve like most nippon set bikes.

I like my I-4.
minimum 60ft/lbs of torque from 2000RPM-9800RPM
minimum 80-ft/lbs 3700RPM-8200RPM.
Peak 91.2ft/lbs@6500RPM
127.55 peak HP
(all numbers eyeballed on chart on motorcycle.com)

'course mine isn't a 600. I don't think I would like 10k+ RPM on the street all day long. This one vibrates enough as it is.

Now children, did not mean to rile ya'll up and make anyone upset, have handed many gsxr riders thier arse on my road, before I got my r6, had to work pretty hard for it, but worth it,(remember one time sliding both ends through lower carousel just to go around my pal).My point was: I love the 'bolt, but promise you, pick ANY track and r6 will beat it, unless Schwantzy is riding the other bike. Please come to msr and I'll prove it!
Still love my 'bolt,13k and going strong!

The Buell is a street bike though Ortega... I agree with you (maybe not the whole "any" track thing... but most of it : )). It needs more engine on the track for sure (not much more).

A LOT more!
I truly love my XB12S for street riding, I love my moped for getting around my neighborhood too, but ride a "new" 600, or 750, it will blow your mind.
And, anyone who thinks that a bike with more HP is no good in the turns, just doesn't know how to ride.

I agree, i love my XB12 but with only 95rwhp and a 5 speed trans it gets boring fast. Especially compared to my gsxr1000 that puts down 162rwhp.

All the people that say 1000`s don`t handle well or have no torque need to ride a new 1000. They all pull hard from 3000rpms and up and make power to over 12,000rpms, and handle like their on rails. They have so much lowend power you can ride them and never rev them past 6000rpms or start from a standstill in 3rd or 4th gear.

I think people should stop saying "oh my friend had a 1000 and it sucked" and actually go ride a new 1000. You will be shocked by the performance. There is not one area where my XB12 could beat a 1000.

"And, anyone who thinks that a bike with more HP is no good in the turns, just doesn't know how to ride."

Who said that?

"There is not one area where my XB12 could beat a 1000."

Except in the turns... Get a clue bro... I'm not the only one saying it. Accept it. I'm sure your 1000 is a BRILLIANT motorcycle. I'm quite positive of it actually. But... It still doesn't handle as well as an XB. Handling is where it's at IMO. If you like GOBS of power and great handling... Go for it. It's your bike ;). Me... I like SUPERB handling and I'm not too concerned with the power. To each there own for sure but if you refuse to accept that an XB handles better than a modern 1000 then you just don't understand what handling is... Oh well... No skin off my back I assure you : ).

There may not be "many" areas where your XB12 can beat a 1000... That's for sure, most roads are just too straight. However... You take them to the MOST FUN places (street places) and the XB12 WILL beat the 1000. Granted... That's all based on MY idea of what makes for fun...

Once you get in the corners the better rider will win. With equal riders (like there is such a thing), the "better" bike will win.

The "better" bike for you will be the one you have confidence in, the one that "feels" right for you.
I had a S3 setup for touring and a S1 setup for the track. I was easily much faster on the S3 because it "felt" better.

I've passed R1s/R6s, Ducati's and track bikes running slicks on my S3 and my FJR.
I've also been passed by a 1973? BMW R90.

(note all my experience noted above was with CLASS at Road America. I do not "test" myself on the street)

Just an observation:

Everyone that has owned or owns a MODERN I4, especially a literbike, seems convinced that the Buell will not take them anywhere, but may in fact be even on really tight stuff. I have not heared that the XB's handle better than MODERN repli-racers from anyone that has owned both.

By the way, when I lived in SoCal the motojournalists bagged on the most of the MO guys as being total squids. Sportrider is a much better source for information from good riders.

ps. The MO comment is derived from my experience 5 years ago when I was in SoCal, things may have changed dramatically since then and I don't want to slander them unnecessarily.

I just got an 06 FZ1 about a month ago and i will deff say it makes a great street bike, as it was said before 3rd gear is good for most roads, unless they are really tight. About the only place my buell pulls harder is from idle to 3-4k after that id say the FZ pulls much harder. As for handling, that is very much in the eye of the beholder. My xb9 handled amazing but was very sharp in corners, where the FZ1 has more of a smooth feel in corners. Personal on most the roads i ride on i find myself able to ride a bit faster through a corner on the FZ1, but that comes back to the comfort thing.
