Key words..., and the speculation says they will be liquid-cooled.

I find it hard to believe that Buell would work so hard on the XBRR if they weren't planning on using some of it's tech in upcoming Buells.

My prediction for the two new models would be a Ully "lite" with the 9 motor and possibly an updated Blast or XBR.

My prediction is an update to the "R".

More power, the new frame, the new cases and jugs etc... Same engine characteristics as the "RR" but heavily de-tuned.

I don't think we'll ever see a 984 Uly. Maybe a blast engine in an XB frame or something to that effect?

I'll believe it when I see it, but hey, I can dream. I'd take either and air or liquid cooled bike producing 120 hp at the wheel from Buell. Just me...

Once again, we will know in July
Up til then it's just rumor.
I, for one, would not put much stock in this one.

I would like a "uly" lite based on the blast motor and more dirt oriented. Am still betting that Homecoming will be interesting this year especially.

Erik Buell has a WATER COOLED ENGINE in waiting !!!

It will produce "BIG HP" and handle better than the XB's !!!

It will be like the XB ENGINE and be released like the BLAST first !!!

their facts are a little shoddy too. The vr-1000 is not the basis for the vrod motor,
other than similar architecture. they have not 1 common part. Odds are if they didn't do
their homework on the facts the rumors are even less solid.

But that's just my take on it. I expect the entire xb line to be updated by using the
Uly/SS frame and maybe some other details. Possible major make-over for the R model to make
it resemble the RR more and cash in on publicity and kill all the talk of protests.

This is all speculation on my part. No factual basis, only semi-eduacted guesses.

Everyone here knows more about Buell than I. Having said that I think it's inevitable that Buell will go to a liquid cooled engine. But by August, noway is my opinion. A year at the soonest, most likely longer.

I don't think they will stretch all of the frames to the SS/Uly... kinda takes away from Buell being different with such a short wheelbase.

WOW. . . talk about a collection of misinformation. Brian, you started to steal my thunder-bike...let me continue.

Harley produced am liquid-cooled twin in consultation with Porsche many years ago, and raced the machine (called the VR1000).

The two were COMPLETELY unrelated.

That engine subsequently made it into a limited-edition sport bike and is the basis of the current V-Rod cruiser series.

completely false

In theory that engine would need some fairly major surgery perhaps the worlds greatest understatement (if not a complete redesign) as it is too big and heavy to suit the Buell chassis.

There are some neat things happening at Buell....none are described here.

I vote that it will be an 'R' set up for the long haul. Hard bags that are easily removable, possibly a windscreen that is adjustable. AND hopefully some more goodies for the rest of us who already own something different.

I veto the article JUST ON THE BASIS of crappy writing and editing - and that's BEFORE dealing with the silly points about the VR1000 and VRod being related in any way (except possibly the number of cylinders).

Also - the reason I think the XBRR bikes and air-cooled motors were pushed instead of the liquid cooled - is RACING. There are big advantages given to aircooled twins in EVERY race organization that I'm aware of - not just the AMA. The RR will be a good race platform. A VR-derived motor stuffed into an XB would be a failure in AMA racing simply because the Superbike rules have changed (for the same reason, the RC-51 is not a competitive superbike)

In nearly every race club, the 1200 aircooled bikes compete against the 750-class twins (like the 749 Ducks). If they were watercooled, they'd go up against the 999 Ducatis at the club level and the Litrebike Inline Fours in AMA. Where is the motivation to do that in racing? Doesn't make sense to me.

Sure, it'd be cool in a streetbike maybe but makes zero sense in a racer to put out a twin that really hasn't been developed as a roadracer KNOWING it takes a few years to get the bugs worked out.

Look at all the s**t Buell took for Daytona this year. Imagine what would happen if they came out with an uncompetitive twin that had NO AMA class in which it could race competitively. Let's face it, much as we'd like to see it, a twin of any design just can't compete against the Yami/Gixxer/Kawi litrebikes. Bostrom could barely make top ten finishes on his 999 - and that's a very well sorted platform ridden by Bostrom. And yeah, a 999RS is "available" to the public but we're talking more than $50K.

Good timing, or total coincidence............

Me, I'd like to see a street version of the XBRR motor. Or a water cooled engine if it can be done well. Because a lot of water-cooled twin cylinder bikes are heavy and messy packages.

Man, I can't believe that it is this time of the year again. Where all the rumors start flying and speculation begins about the next years offerings. Last year just about gave me a coronary. Hope this year is the same!!! I look forward to seeing whatever the Buell team releases.

As Daves said:

I, for one, would not put much stock in this one.

I, for two, would not put much stock in this one either. Especially considering the errors pointed out by Diablobrian and Court.

With this rubbish it makes me think that the internet is the quickest growing tabloid in circulation today.

Sure it doesn't imply anything but it is never the less interesting to read that somewhat tantalizing insight, if we can call it that.

Bleh. Sorry, I disagree. Let the Lightning/Ulysses be the long-haul/sport tourer

Well put.

Since Buell is finally returning to his racing heritage, I wonder why he or any other American Motorcycle manufacturer didn't consider an inline four motor. Are there ANY American inline four motors? I know (moto)czysz has a 15 degree longitudinal V4, which is a cross between both an inline and a v-twin. If HD spent 5+ years on R&D for the V-Rod, an engine no one seems to like completely and one HD didn't even make, I wonder why Buell didn't reinvent his own, as opposed to tweaking an existing product. (Yes, I'm aware that time, money, and being a small independent company are all detrimental factors, but we all seem to be fantasizing with the what if-?) There was another post about putting in a different engine into the Buell, with everyone raising hell about Buell's engine's merits/pitfalls. I know manufacturers have put in other motorcycle manufacturers' engines into their frames (I think Italian frame, Japanese engine ??). Any financial merit to this for Buell?

Well, since everybody's dreaming, I might as well throw my two cents in the hat:
I WANT AN S4-T !!!
XBRR based engine, detuned to 110 - 120 HP for reliability, Hepco & Becker bags, a fairing with lowers similar to the S3-T, heated grips, switches redesigned so that you can toggle between modes on the odometer without removing your hand from the bars, and a hydraulic clutch with the line routed so that the odometer window isn't obstructed.
Maybe Erik believes that Sport Tourers don't sell, but I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
