How many miles does it take your XB12 bikes' gas light to come on? Mine has been coming on right around 100 miles... sometimes 96mi., sometimes 110mi. and I don't ride the bike super hard... seems like I should be getter better gas mileage. I heard the gas mileage gets better as the bike ages... is this true? Mine only has about 600 miles on it. Thanks. (Message edited by earwig on April 20, 2006) | ||

Mine came on at 140 miles during my ride last weekend. I've only gone through a couple tanks of gas so far, so i don't know if this is typical or not. I bought the bike used a few weeks ago. 2005 XB12s with 2500 miles on it. | ||

on my XB12S (05) the light comes on right around 110 (only have about 7 tanks of gas in it since I got it new as a leftover - approx 750 miles) | ||

I AM ALSO AROUND 110 MILES PER TANK. THEN TO FILL UP IS ALMOST 2.2 GALLONS EVERY TIME. | ||

My bike, an XB12R, has about 7,000 miles on it. I ride it fairly hard and the light comes on between 115-125 miles. Like Earwig, I have also heard that you must get past break-in before getting good mileage . . . | ||

I have about 1200 miles on my 05 xb12s my light comes on anywhere between 100-115 I do not ride hard at all. | ||

Did a ride last weekend, (2004 XB12s with 8,100 miles on it), in the Colorado foothills 8,500 to 9,500 feet in elevation and the light came on just as i hit 180 miles. got 73 miles per gallon when i filled it up. My bike has always averaged between 60 and 70 mpg. | ||

If I run my '03 XB9S gently on the country roads, she'll get about 116 to 118 before displaying the yellow lollipop. However, if I run the ever luvin' mucus membranes out of her on the highway, the yellow glow starts at 110 or so. It seems counter-intuitive, but I don't care. | ||

The illumination determination of the fuel light functions in direct proportion to the enthusiasm of the right wrist. When I ride alone, I can get 40-45mpg. If I ride with my significant other rolling on her Blast, I can get almost 70mpg. She's a wonderful rev limiter. And such a role model! | ||

It's supposed to be 0.7 gals in reserve, so you're looking at 20-30 miles before you start "puckering" | ||

I have had my XB12X at 30.7 miles on the low fuel light, and it was dry, coasted into the gas station, hope that helps. | ||

Earwig, I read somewhere in badweb that bikes that run at higher altitudes, seem to get a lot better mileage. Do not know why. I have a buddy of mine that has a 2004 xb12R and he get similar to me. I most of the time shift between 3,500 and 4,000. I ride aggressively but not running to redline all the time like a lot of others do. | ||

I believe high altitude does help gas mileage. The computer and fuel injection regulate gas and air mixtures, and fuel delivery. Therefore if there is less air, less gas is used, and vice versa for sea level. Also if you have the race ecm/kit, I think the kit richens the fuel mixture not exactly sure how much that would affect mileage. Lastly the right wrist syndrome is the one situation I know for sure decreases gas mileage. | ||

97S3T, up to 56MPG if "i" stay of the loud handle ... If "i" do not the gas mileage goes south ... Average 200 miles to the gas tank(when "i" have to turn the resurve on) if "i" stay off the loud handle ... (Message edited by buellistic on April 21, 2006) | ||

with my 2005 XB12S the light comes on in the high 80's low 90's. I've never crossed 100. I figure an average of about 45mpg. Like others, Im sure it would do better with a little less wrist action. I tend to enjoy the push from 70mph to 90mph a bit too much  As for miles after the light comes on...8 miles is about all I could take before the panic attack sets in | ||

On the street I will usually see 110-140 miles on the odometer before hitting the fuel light. I consistently go ~20 miles on the light, farthest I've gone on the light is 25 miles. I haven't run it out yet. One factor in the distance to the fuel light is how much you are filling up the tank. I've learned about how high I can fill mine without it spilling over and usually try to fill right to that point. If you don't fill it up all the way you won't see as many miles as others before hitting the fuel light. | ||

I have a new '05 XB12R with 450 miles. The light comes on around 105-110 miles every time and takes 2.7-2.8 gallons. Which makes me wonder if I am filling the bike up all the way. Where is the point at which the tank is full? | ||

it is full when the fuel level reaches the ring you see down inside the fill neck. | ||

Most gas stations have pretty level pads at the pumps. I put the M2 on the side stand, full left lock on the bars, and fill until the gas touches the lower (left side) edge of the tapered black rubber splash collar you see down in the neck. That gives very consistent fills. I try to fill at 150 miles and it takes 3 to 3.2 gallons so I'm getting a steady 45-50 MPG. Straddling the bike and keeping it vertical will probably let me get another gallon in. I'm going to test that for longer trips and maybe try for 200 mile fillup cycles. With this kind of fill I'd cap and seal the tank with the bike vertical Jack | ||

Guys, I got my gas mileage results. Does this sound right? My gas light came on at 130 miles. I put gas in and filled it almost to the rim of 2.62 gallons. Which means I averaged about 49-50mpg. I have an 03 XB9s. Only mod I am aware of is a Jardin RT-1 muffler. | ||

I have a 06XB12Sslong and I have 700 miles on the bike and I'm getting 135 to 145 a tank right now, before light comes on, but I'm taking it easy on the throttle right now. Also the Ss has a larger tank, total of 4.5 gal. At last fill up it was 3.7 gal when the light came on at 143 miles. Love the gas mile and power of my Ss. | ||

got my 05' xb9s 2nd hand currntly 3000 miles, I've only started riding the bike this season and i notice im running about 57 to 60 miles before i have to fill up appx 2.2 gal.(obviously way less than what the norm is) Any tips as to how to better my gas mileage? thanks guys Alan |
