"Riders of equal caliber will excel on a better bike. Look at Valentino Rossi & Yamaha if you doubt me."
I thought that the Honda was a better bike and that it was the RIDER who made the bike not necessarily the bike. Isnt that what Rossi's whole story behind going to Yamaha was all about? He switched because everyone though it was the Honda that was making him win so much and when he went to Yamaha he was supposed to come in 2nd or 3rd only behind Honda because the Yamaha was an underpowered bike in comparison to the Honda. And look what he did with it.
"If you want to make it worth my while and put up titles, I'll meet you on the Dragon, me on my Aprilia & you on your Buell, but I guarantee you, within the first mile, you won't even be able to see me!"
Why would you want more "junk"?
Why are you even here if you disagree with the whole Buell concept? I have rode 10,000 miles on my Buell since I aquired it last August and have never even thought of going back to the I-4, I couldnt be more happier with my bike. Its a work of art, its a great reliable bike, easy to maintain, unique, American made, and I have never met any other riders who have as much pride in their bikes as Buell owners. One thing that makes the Buell fun is the people that ride them. The way I see it, your unhappy with your riding style, and have yet to find the bike that you feel best suits you. Perhaps I can indulge your senses on a newer type of bike.

"Since your stepping up for pinks, would you ride for titles at Summit Point Raceway, WV, where there is no traffic or cops? 8 lap sprint in CCS? Lawnmower vs. the Aprilia supertechno-rocket?"

I'd have to see the track. My guess is it's a "go-kart" track. All turns & no straights.
Even still, I’m sure I’d still probably pommel you with the Aprilia.
Let’s face it; you guys are a bunch of thin-skinned girls, upset because I stated the “fact” that the Harley motor is junk! Anyone with ANY mechanical knowledge would have to agree.
These bikes are racing against bikes with HALF their displacement, and STILL can hardly qualify!!! Give me a break! Could you possibly be that dim as to think this is a superior piece of technology???
“ThePup” seems to be one of the very few here with an open-mind and objectivity.
And Pup, if “Cuell” takes me up on this, I’ll fly you in to watch! Don’t worry, I’ll use the proceeds from the sale of his bike to pay for your ticket!

“check out the odemeter on that aprilia. 1649 miles! I put that on my Firebolt in the first week I owned it.”

Wow! Very observant! You must be a REAL “Biker”! That WAS the first week I owned the Aprilia. Your Firebolt probably hasn’t seen half that MPH ever, either!
Very much like when a reporter yelled to Truman, "Give 'em hell Harry!"
Truman responded, "I don't give 'em hell, I just tell them the truth and they think it's hell!"
Not a "Harley Hater", just telling it like it is, as always.

Wow. Must be nice to be so smart. You can have an opinion. But no one has to agree with it. And that goes both ways. I love when people challenge each other to a Race that will never happen. Reminds me of Blake and Dyna. But that was long ago.

Well, besides being "so smart", I'm also pretty well off.
If Cuell is serious & we can find an independent to hold BOTH titles until the end of the race, I'm serious.
I could always use a little more cash.
But don't worry, I'll offer his bike up here, before posting on Ebay!

Isn't the Dragon mostly turns as well? It was the last 2 times I was there. Did they straighten it out? BTW. My Brother-in Law on his 04 GSXR 1000 with about 15 years riding experience couldn't keep up with Honu on his 03 XB9R or me on my XB12S last year at the Dragon. Not even close. AND there are people on this board that saw it first hand. So I think your theory about it being all bike is a load of shit. Pink slips. How old are you again!?

here we go with less than half the displacement again. this has been retreaded
several times but here is the engineering
perspective on the displacement and the reason why the AMA set the rules the way they did.
The effective displacement (swept) is figured on volume x rpm. if you do the math the two
motors are pretty closely matched. The Buell also uses half as many valves per cylinder, and
uses air cooling. There is a reason they come up with very
similar hp when you do the math. BTW these "junk" motors meet EPA emissions up to 2010 standards without a
catalytic converter. What Aprilia can make the same claim?

Yeah I'm sure WERA, CCS, ASRA, the AMA, SCCA etc use a "go-Cart track" give me a break, it is
a national level track, although it is a bit dated compared to other similar go-cart tracks like Barber.

It sounds like you've never been in closed course competition but you want to tell racers how fast you are.

It's simple. get your racing license, or head up to bonneville. Earn your stripes before you
go talking smack about the inherent superiority of one piece of machinery over another. We see the lap times at the track.

I thought the title of this forum was The Bad Weather Biker's Buell Motorcycle Enthusiasts' Discussion Forum.

If it is SOOO bad around here, what exactly are you doing around here? Why don't you put your piece of junk up for sale, go buy something more in tune with your "lifestyle" and go see how fast you can go with all that horsepower?

NEXT!

It will never happen and I have to admit I would never race for pinks. That is a bluff. Too much uncontrollable stuff can happen to gamble my bike that way on the street or the track. But my point is that the guy most likely can't exceed the limits of the XB, no matter what bike he is on. Even on the XB, I would be willing to "bet" that he can't use all the potential of the "junk" motor, in the corners, where it counts.

Its all internet crap anyway and I should know better than to get sucked into it. But its hard to resist when someone asks for it so blatantly. I think someone who uses terms like "play pretend" to describe the very bikes he is calling superior, shows a dismissive attitude towards those who can actually ride bikes fast, and aren't pretending. I am guessing that that comes from the delusion that not all that much separates fast street riding from racing on the track. And from there, and reading too many magazines, he figures a heavy right hand and HP can overcome most anything. I am guessing that same misunderstanding is what allows him to call something like the XB engine junk. Too much ego.

In the time it took me to type that, a lot was posted!

Lets race for fun! No slips, just bragging rights. Summit Main, you name the weekend. I'll dust off the license and renew, and because its been more than 3 years I'll enter Amateur so they'll let you in the same class as me. Be ready to run 1:21's if you want to win - (You'll do well to break 1:25 even on that bike, but 1:30 is more realistic for first weekend)

I'll be there anyway. Might as well embarrass you in the process.

This guy is out of control(probably from Sportbikeworld.com). He is probably sitting at home right now with all of his gear on playing pretend moto GP racer as he conjures up these outrageous remarks. Love the touch up from photoshop what are you like 8? Honestly if you dont like Buell so much then keep looking for something else that suits you but the more you keep "telling it like it is" the more your gonna find yourself ALONE, and banned from any type of boards/forums/groups, etc. dont you get it? People have been telling you like it is. You sound like an a s s, and Im just callin it as I see it. BTW motorcycles work best when you actually know how to RIDE them. Cheers!

"Why do ppl on here take it so personal when ppl have an opinion that Buells aren't the best bikes built."

First, because that is rarely if ever the type of thoughtful criticism being leveled. Usually it is assinine jackassed confrontation statements such as "the junk Harley motor" or "Anyone with even modest mechanical knowledge would have to agree, that the Harley engine is a 60 year-old design akin to tractor, or lawnmower technology" or then the various personal insults... "Difference between you & me is I just tell it like it is!" implying that anyone who disagrees is a liar, or "If you truly believe this, you are delusional beyond belief!".

Rule #1 on BadWeB: Personal insults/attacks are simply unacceptable here. Those engaging in that type of commentary... Stop it or cease your participation here. Your choice.

Second, because for some of us, they are! My Buell Cyclone is hands down the best bike ever built... for me. Deal with it.

It seems to me that some folks are more threatened and driven to emotional extremes by those of us who prefer the bikes that Buell builds than we are of them. Can't take the heat? Get the out of the kitchen.

"I've actually been kicked off that forum 28 times!"

Not sure that is indicative of anything positive, well, other than tenacity.

Please do tell folks how amazingly tolerant we are here though.

Are you open for some advice?

Please don't be upset if the majority of folks here don't share your dim views of Buell motorcycles. That said, I don't know anyone here that would disagree that a Buell is not a superbike racer-replica.

That we don't agree with your harshly miserable characterizations of the Buell engine doesn't make us liars. In my view, it makes us thoughtful and cognizant of much more than merely peak HP/cc.

Also, a little tact and well considered thoughtful discussion does not make one dishonest; it might help earn one a measure of respect and deference though.

: )

Chris. you need to chill. I am also 55 and don't feel the need to act 16. what 55 years has taught me is that there are many different opinions from mine. Life is too short to waste it on trying to always prove someone else is wrong. I have watched this grow and grow. as I said before I would not walk into a room full of people with different beliefs than mine and tell them they were all wrong than look for sympathy by saying that I tell it like it is. Please grow up. if you are 55 you give people our age a bad name. Have fun on what ever you ride. and yes I ride a blast, and know what? I am very happy with it. It may not go 161 but it will exceed the speed limit in all 50 states. Try to accept that the people on this board love their Buells and are quite proud of them.

Not that I have much to add to this, but reminds me of a saying i saw somewhere. Arguing on the internet is a lot like the special olympics, even if you win, you are still a retard : ) Meant with no disrespect to anybody involved or the special olympics. I've been online long enough to see my share of flame wars, I am waiting for this thread to get Godwin'd and we can all be on our merry way. Or better yet perhaps the weather here will stop teasing us. 75 and Awesome on Friday, Snow yesterday, and 23 this morning when I got in the car to go to work.

OK, So let me get this straight.
Buells can’t beat 600’s on the racetrack. They can’t even qualify!
But the squids here, with their Valentino Rossi like riding skills and their magic, super Buells with custom graphics, can beat liter bikes?
This theory based on the fact that they once passed a Jap bike, piloted by even bigger squid than themselves?
OK, I think I’ve got it now!
Yes, I’m 55, but I’m the most immature 55 you’ll ever meet.
“Milk, milk, lemonade, around the corner fudge is made!”
I prefer to not grow into an old fart. If others prefer a different venue, that’s fine, just don’t try and make me conform to YOU!
Bottom line is; like I said before, I rise to EVERY challenge in life. Be it on the racetrack, in a bar, or anywhere else.
Just the lifestyle I've chosen and it's been working for me!

Just sounds like a grumpy old man to me

Who would have thought negative comments on a Buell forum would meet with a bit of resistance?

It's a basic engine design refined a little bit and placed in a nice well thought out chassis. A Buell has a bit of charachter which is lacking in some other bikes.

However the whole internal combustion engine with two wheels aint exactly a new idea is it? Aprillia just do it in a slightly different way.

Reminds me of when Mick Doohan and his fellows were finding the big bang Moto GP engines too much and they had to fiddle with firing order to make them rideable. More power isn't always the way forward but a coherent package that allows the power to be used is.

Well unless all you do is race in a straight line I guess

I dont recall anybody ever making testimony that their 1200 can beat a 600, if someone has and I overlooked it amidst all of the shit in this thread I stand corrected. However, I think I can say it again since you obviously dont get the point behind everyone here. People who ride Buells arent interested in going Mach 3, they're not interested in running numbers in a straight line. There is something called a "test ride" before you buy a piece of "junk". Sitting on the bike and making motorcycle sounds will not tell you how fast a bike is, you should've test rode. I would have to say the majority of the Buell crowd consists of people who love their bikes because they are unique and well balanced machines. IMO They've got excellent power when riding in traffic and splitting lanes. It is here where I have seen many non-Buell bikes (wont mention cc sizes) pull to the right of the lane so another Buelligan can get to work on time. CCemn1, seriously if you dont want your piece of "junk" sell it to me for $1 to make it legal. I will meet you at your residence and happily take it off your hands. Better yet Ill pay you just enough so you can buy a newer kind of bike. Perhaps your calling isnt anything that is gas powered. Perhaps you prefer an electric motorcycle, that will not harm the environment. The tires are easy to replace, and the batteries are not too expensive. This is the fastest bike in its class so youll be passing all of those up of you junior.

seems this guy is the "BIKER" of all bikers. his word is "GODS WORD". no changing his mind and he is "ALWAYS" right. i would not waist anymore time w/ him. THIS COULD GO ON FOREVER!!!
i see this just getting ugly and going nowhere. he has no "ACTUAL" real data to back his arguement. he is just an "old scool biker" from when "real bikes" were real (lol) and he has done it all (x2). the phrase " I prefer to not grow into an old fart" is funny as "YOU" are already there. "YOUR" miserable, complaining about everything, your way is right no matter what we say/prove, your the best, we are the worst..etc..etc..etc..
i think he may be "rising" to the challenge (because thats what he does) of pissing people off w/ his ignorence. i guess if i was the best at everything i would be bored and need to entertain myself by being miserable and try making everyone around me just the same way. SEEMS NO ONE IS RIGHT EXCEPT HIM. PERIOD!
this is one of them topics that one should "JUST LET DIE!"
