Please support our sponsors.

Please refrain from promoting non-sponsors.

I DO support the sponsors, but it appears that some "censorship" has taken place here?
This IS the "free enterprise system" and this is supposed to be a site for Buell & Buell owners. It would be nice if we could share ALL information like is supposed to happen in a free country with "free speech"!

No censorship, just doing what is right by the people who actually pay the bills for this house.

yeah, but maybe the sponsors will take notice of lower competitor priices and follow suit. Thats usually how capitalism works. Nobody likes a monopoly, thats why the majority of us dont patronize the HD dealerships and instead seek out independents that we trust. I say share the love.

I gotta agree with Blake and Loki on this one. Nothing in life is free. The sponsors on this board have been very good to me and I am sure a bunch of others. That said, a few points off when you buy from someone who simply undercuts price is not a good long term strategy in my opinion-it isn't really worth it. The sponsors I have dealt with are passionate about Buell's, and passionate about those that ride them. I'll gladly pay retail to have a good experience and enjoy good service from someone who understands the product.

I bought a Buell XB12S Lightning-NOT a Wal Mart Lightning.

The censored posted retailer might become a Sponsor if he got business from us. How else will they know about the BadWeb. As a retailer you have to know it's lucrative before you Sponsor. It's almost a catch 22. I can see both sides.........but I really dislike censorship!

I wasn't promoting the site I posted, I just thought it was awesome how much cheaper they are than most other places I have found. The site I posted is a HD supplier and shop also, they aren't a walmart supplier.

"Free" enterprise is exactly that!
What are the sponsors of this site afraid of?
Yes, I'm a supporter & have already made several hundred dollars in purchases, but if someone else is offering a good deal, why not let the word out?
That is one of the hypocrisies of free enterprise. I find it tends to stimulate the pseudo elitist groups that prefer to maintain the "gouging" type business practices.
I am against ANY kind of censorship!
Earwig, Please PM me with the info also!
Thanks, CC

I just went to the deleted site and priced the Tank Guard for an XB. It's called an Air Box Trim, part # 61581-02y. MSRP is $39.95 their price is $32.68. that's an 18% discount.
Dave S. at Appleton gives us 10%. I've seen him jump through hoops to help out Buellers who needed parts. Isn't it better to do business with someone who wants your business and will work to help you out? Discount dealers are just that. You may pay a little less (in this case, a whopping three bucks), but will they try to track down that unavailable part when you're sitting with a dead bike; or will they just send you an e-mail stating the part is back ordered, with no expected delivery date? In the meantime, they've whacked your credit card for the price of the part, so now you either have to wait for it, or you get to deal with an apathetic jerk who doesn't really want to give you your money back.
Incidentally, of the Badweb sponsors I've met, not one would I consider a member of a "pseudo elitist group that prefers to maintain the "gouging" type business practices." They all seem to be pretty decent people who are enthusiastic about Buells.

It's kind of a pairaducks.

NOT being a sponsor is certainly, in my mind, sufficient reason to discourage advertising in a venue supported by sponsors. I mean fair is fair.

The downside would be if (I'm not saying there is)there were an inference that NOT being a sponsor infers anything other than you are not a sponsor.

Part of the problem is that some of the best Buell parts and performance places make very little money from Buell and a potful from Sportster work. Ergo, pure logic sends them to Sportster boards.

This will improve as Buell continue to penetrate the market and the market for aftermarket grows.

Hey. . . while we are on the topic . . and personal opinions are being shared. . . I will ALWAYS pay more to Liberty, Dave Stueve or Topeka if there price is higher than the discounters.

Service, really GREAT service like you get from these guys, does not come free.

Dave paid transportation, lodging and meals at Daytona to be there with us. While we all enjoyed it, a portion of his mission is to serve his customers and that entails some expenses. If those show up on the next t-shirt or wheel I buy. . . so be it.

I'm from Kansas and don't live in NYC, so I had to go to my redneck dictionary to look up "pairaducks". I see now what it means. Here's an example. "Vern did you see that "pairaducks" fly over the pond".

I'm still not sure what ducks have to do with the whole issue.

Sorry Court I couldn't resist.

Hey Crusty... I have ordered from them TONS of time... you can track your order online or call someone whenever you want, I never waited an extended amount of time... go look at the price difference in the body parts... its a lot more than 3 bux... for example, the MSRP for the part 95738-05YAD - CUSTOM PAINT, XB9S/12S, VOLTAGE is $799... the site I posted has it for $639.20... do the math. ALSO, they do not charge your credit card until the item has shipped...

There will always be someone cheaper out there.
My goal has never been to be the cheapest.
I try to be fair and provide good service.
I work hard at it.
Some buyers will always go for the cheapest price.
Other will go for the service, support, favors that I and the other sponsors of this board offer.
I understand that and accept it for what it is. People will be people.

But, HD/Buell of Appleton and all the other sponsors do pay to be able to advertise and do business here.
That's what keeps the doors open on the site we all love.
Everyone here has the choice.

Thank you to all of you that support me and the other sponsors!

By the way Cce, I have never "gouged" anyone.

And Court, yes you have been spelling my name right, thanks!

I would gladly pay a bit more to the sponsors, and have. But to be honest, I have found sponsors prices to be inline with most other places, even ebay. For the service and Buell knowledge its worth it. Not to mention that they keep this place going.
Support our sponsors!

WOW!

How many times does this actually come up in a given time frame.

It is a fine line that has to be drawn. A position that has to be supported. Another "sponsor" can always step in and test the waters. No other way to see if the rate of return justifies it.

I despise my dealership, nothing but a bunch of slack-jawed troglodytes, and I bought TWO bikes from them, a Sportster and a Buell. Well, I might as well be a leprous, blind, homosexual paraplegic because I don't drive a "big twin". I've only taken both bikes to the dealer once in the five years I've owned them. I found a tech on the side and I give him all my business. Why? Because I pay for service and knowledge and peace of mind. I don't want some moron to work on my bike. You can buy all the trick stuff for your bike from anyone that'll save you 2 cents but you'll always go back to the guy who's fair and honest. You can buy your part from Der Liderhosen but you'll probably call Dave or Al or anyone on this post for advice when it really counts. If you found something for cheap, you can always privately PM the other members. I've dealt with almost every one of the post's sponsors. All are top notch. The bottom line is this: a business must make a profit in order for it to continue to be a business. When a business stops making money, it folds and becomes a hobby. Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish.

I personally always price shop first and then if the sponsors are within a resonable amount of what I can find a part for I will go with them every time. You never know when you might run across a steal on ebay, and I try not to miss those, but I would prefer to go with the sponsors. I've always been 100% taken care of by our sponsors, and if they are a couple percent higher on the price of an item it is well worth it. Why don't we see if the place in question would like to be a sponsor?

All I know is that I have been treated very well by both this board and the sponsers I have delt with. Even though I have a Blast I seem to be treated the same as every one else. I look at it as if I bought space on a bill board and someone came along and hung a promotion off of it and did not pay for it I would be pi$$ed. Especially if they were catering to the same group I was. Free enterprise is defined by Websters as " The freedom of private business to operate competitivly for profit, with minimal government regulation." I don't think that means the freedom to horn in on paid space for free. I someone want's to test the waters then sponser for a short time. if it is profitable stick around if not go away.

I am approached by people that want me to advertise on their websites, in their magazines (for a fee) all the time. they all tell me how much business it is going to bring me. I always tell them all the same thing.

"Wow! that sounds great as I could use the extra business. So how about this? Give me the first month for free and if it truly brings me so much business I will sign an annual contract as well as pay you for the first free month".

Kinda funny but not one company has ever taken me up on it.

>>>I have never "gouged" anyone.

That's an EXTREMELY accurate statement.

I bought stuff, in fact LOTS of stuff, from several of the sponsors here including Dave, Stone Mountain, American Sport Bike and Liberty.

Without exception, each time has been a pleasure.

Dave adds value by KNOWING (like inside and out) your Buell better than you do. This SAVES money by him being able to tell you, "that won't work well with such and such" or knowing "hey if you are ordering "A", you'll also need a "B" to mount it)

Al Lighton continues to be a source of amazement. Poof. . . that's it. You order, you get, it works and Al's engineering background, again, will prevent alot of folks from buying thier way into a stupid purchase.

That's just my PERSONAL experience.

blake your actions dont help the sponsers, it runs people away

I strongly disagree. I've been on Badweb for awhile, and I haven't run yet.

Since I haven't perfected growing $$ on trees (still working out the details : )), I'm of course as interested in getting a "good price" as the next guy. I have however earlier on paid some expensive "learning bills" for going with the lowest price, only to realize I got a lot less than I paid for.

As others have pointed out our sponsors are interested, enthusiastic and well versed in all things Buell. They are also honest and upstanding business people, who *will* help you out and stand behind their products should the need arise. IMO that's worth a lot.

That said - some people mistakenly quote freedom of speech etc. This is not some street corner where you can do whatever you want, this is Blake's house. Don't know about you, but guests in my house are politely asked to stick to the rules of the house - no smoking inside for instance - and all do, since they're nice, sensible people. Should a guest in my house choose not to follow these polite requests, they would, politely, be reminded, and if persisting be made to leave.

See my rant about the 03' XB belt and you will see the value of this sites sponsors. I bought not one but two 03' belts. For another 100 dollars any one of a number of this boards sponsors would have made sure I knew about the upgrade option. $300.00 down the toilet. If I have to pay a 5% premeum so be it. It is cheap in the long run.

Quite the enigma here folks. To each his own, I say. Most people (myself included) are going to shop where they feel most comfortable. Just remember one thing, and please don't take this out of context. Put yourself in the shoes of the guy who is selling stuff for much cheaper than the rest. He may be Joe Blow who gave up his 9-5, because he thought he could provide a product to a people for a fair price. He may have invested his life savings, even if he does fail. How did American Sportbike, and the rest, get their start? Just because someone will sell you something cheaper, doesn't mean you won't get customer service. May I also make mention of DHM? I'm sure Keith doesn't go home at night and swim in his millions ala Scrooge McDuck. If someone finds a good deal and are excited about it, they naturally either want to brag, or educate. Not put our sponsors in the poorhouse. Am I saying give the lil' guys a chance? Yes! Am I saying don't shop the sponsors? No! Do what makes the most sense for you. As far as any censorship goes, I plead the 5th. In closing, I will say this; I enjoy the BadWeb, and would hate to see it go bye-bye. I have shopped numerous outlets including the sponsors. I don't think anyone should be exiled because they wanted to save a couple of bucks, heck, most of us just WANT to ride, and NEED to make a living. Some can't afford to spend with a sponsor or anyone else who charges out the rear. Sorry, I'm done. In with the good air, out with the bad air...}

"I wasn't promoting the site I posted"

That may not have been your intent, to help market the site. However, creating a topic entitled "Buell parts for $less$" with an opening post directing folks via hyperlink to a non-sponsor site is the very definition of promoting. Even our sponsors rarely engage in such overt in your face promotion here. You may not have intended it that way; I can and do accept that. But promotion is darn sure exactly what it was, and I would hope that you could find it in your heart see my point.

I need to be honest with those seeking the information via PM, knowing full well the sensitivity of the issue here. You are being disrespectful to BadWeB, to our sponsors, and to me personally. I find your behavior selfish and insulting.

ON censorship: I'd like for you Chris (CC) to please show me ANY major media venue devoid of censorship, anywhere in print, cable, satellite, broadcast TV, on the radio or on the internet, please show it to me. There is no such fantasy cencorship-free media anywhere that I know.

With freedom comes responsibility. With the enjoyment of BadWeB so too comes obligations. Avoiding the promotion of non-sponsors is one of teh very few of them.

BTW Earwig, I didn't delete your opening post. I moved it to where it is appropriate and acceptable, to the "Links" page.

Thank you Brian, Henrik, Court, Crusty, Buellmonkey, Olin, Madsx, and everyone for your kind and supportive words. We sure do have a great group of folks here.

Ron,
Sorry to see you go. You are welcome back anytime. If that happens, it would be great if you could contribute to an actual motorcycle related discussion.
