Has anyone (a.k.a. Al or Daves) done a map for the Drummer SS pipe yet? This suddenly seems important as a separate thread here @ Badweb indicates that the race ECM is going away.

And a slightly different question. Will the Check Engine light stay on when running these remapped stock ECM's with an exhaust that has no butterfly? If so, this seems bad to me. If the light is always on for this reason, you don't get a heads up when something really goes wrong.

If the cel can't be programmed out with the direct link, there are cheap servo emulators you can plug in so you can remove the servo completely. Or, you can just leave the servo installed, and wire tie up the cable end. It doesn't hurt anything to have it there...just a pound or so of dead weight.

We don't have a map for the drummer SS yet. If I had a drummer SS to give to Terry, we'd add it to the queue of mufflers that will get mapped. But I don't, so I can't say when it will occur.

In the near term, you can leave the servo connected electrically but with no mechanical actuator cable. But we'll have the emulators in quantity soon that plug right into the three position Deutsch connector so that you can take the servo off the bike. DirectLink does NOT alter algorithms, it merely alters the look up tables.

Al,

FYI - Just sent Kevin/kdfab an e-mail, offering to pre-pay for XB12 Drummer SS for your dyno tuning/testing comparison, exhaust to be shipped to me following completion. Would this be acceptable arrangement?

Quite a few folks here interested in the XB exhaust-a-thon results. Regardless of outcome (rankings), optimized performance via tuned ECM/DirectLink would be desirable aftermarket investment for Drummer SS fans.

If something really goes wrong you will know about it, you won't need a CEL light to tell you. The trouble codes need a CEL for us to retrieve them though.

I notice you often mention that the algorithms in the ecm cannot be changed. All that was ever required/desired was to change the look-up tables wasn't it? Can you clarify? Is there a deficiency in the algorithms? It would be real neat to see what the fuel and ignition tables (stock and/or race)look like, I guess someone will let us all know in due course.

The algorithms are fine, and we don't modify them with DirectLink. The only lookup tables currently being modified in DirectLink are

Fuel tables (Front and rear)
Spark tables (front and rear)
Accel table (one table, affects front and rear based on throttle rate of change down low)
Decel table (one table, affects front and rear cylinder fuel cut in decel conditions)

We don't even know EXACTLY what the Buell DDFI algorithms are. We know how it behaves from empirical testing, and enough has been published about them to have a clue how the fuel tables interact with the algorithms. But the specifics aren't published, and we don't have access to them and don't really need to in order to tune the engine well.

OK. If something REALLY goes wrong I'll know. But if something minor goes wrong, I likely won't know until it becomes something major.

Thanks for the answers about remapping and the availability of the emulator.
