Just wanted to see on here who likes to Wheelie? What gear do you start in ? clutch no clutch??

I usually start in first and just hit the throttle and it brings it right up.. However I have been able to keep it going (a little scared still) to be able to get into second gear..

Peace out

I attempt all the time. I usually leave it in first, give it some gas, let off, then romp it and it comes right up. Sometimes I get lucky and I can shift into second and it stays up. A little tricky at first, but it usually stays up through second, just takes practeece.

The good old wheely thread makes it's monthly appearance. You can do wheelies that will amaze yourself with the XB. I was only able to primarily pick mine up in first when I got it and second sometimes. If you want to ride second every time you will need to use the clutch. I pick mine up in second at about 30 mph. You can do second sitting down or standing with your left foot back and your right over the brake. VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOUR RIGHT OVER THE BRAKE! In third you will need to stand on the bike like I just explained, and I can bring it up from about 40-55. I've gotten the bike up in fourth, but never to the balance point. I think I'll try to master fourth this season. I'll post up some pics or videos once we've made some.

It does not matter how hard I hit the throttle on my 9R the front will not come off the ground. Done a couple popping the clutch but I am still a big wussy and have never gotten consistent.

I sure wish I had the bike when Doug was still alive...............

The guy goes thousands of feet in the air in an overgrown easter basket attached to a balloon and he's ascairt to put one wheel 3 feet off the ground. Go figure.

Don't try slow wheelies first.. I was trying to do slow wheelies first and I got a 12 o'clock 3 mph.. well was going good, then I had to jump off, bike got away from me, so i let go... bike landed on the primary cover.. and looked like someones head exploded on the ground.. this was in november.. bike is fixed now.. but man.. if you try doing slow ones.. make sure you buy a cage.. they are like 240 bux or so.. well worth the money.. or get some LSL Gear on the bike..
I start out in 1st.. it takes time to transition from 1st to 2nd.. but practice makes perfect.. if your scared to try.. don't do it.. these bikes are pretty..
Good luck!

Kdan, For even more irony I have over 3,200 hours in hang gliders and paragliders as well.

I slam the canyons pretty hard also. But I will feel so darn stupid trashing my bike doing a wheelie............

When i first got my 9s i started a wheelie thread and its funny that almost the exact same responses were given (with exception to skyguys odd situation) lol. Now with nothing more then an odie pipe and cut 12 lid i can bring her right up in 2nd and have a blast. When it gets warm Im going to get some videos to see what it looks like so i can make them a little more pretty.

Alex : )

If I did not have to "pop" the clutch I would be doing wheelies. It would be so much fun to have a bike I could just roll on the throttle and stand up!

something could be wrong then, because even with a 9 you should be able to roll on the gas in first gear, let off, and punch it and it should come right up. That was just my experience.

Buell 892,
What kind of RPM are you running it up to before dropping the throttle?

Did you get my previous post about your getting back on the horse gift?

skyguy, ever have your bike on a dyno? Lee's Cycle down on Aero drive?
(right down the hill from SDPD's equipment division) has one. That is Jeremy Toye's shop.
I suspect you have a tuning issue.

sky i got your last post, and thanks. I would say my rpm is around 3k or 3500... nothing too high, cause then i cant ride it out very long if im that high in 1st gear. In second i go with the avg 30-35 mph roll then goose her up.

Diablo, No Dyno. I have been extremely cash poor trying to start the hot air balloon business (paid cash for the balloon). Just staying in tires and oil changes has been tough. I know that I need to reset the TPS and the other sensor though and I can tell she is off a bit. Idle is low also.

Know anyone that wants to go paragliding or ballooning? This winter has been difficult to say the least and I don't get to fix my bike until I bring a few more bucks in.

I will happily barter!

Sorry, I no longer even live on that end of the country, or I'd be happy to put in the good word with the shop.
With the turn-over you get in race shops I've been away too long to have much pull with the guys over at Lee's
I understand tight finances, I'm on a fixed income myself. Have you talked to Al at American Sport Bike ?
Any mods on my bike have to be planned well in advance and saved for. Fortunately my bike is almost done.
For my speed fix I live vicariously through my brother, Diablomichael.

Diablobrian,

I sometimes go to sleep and dream about getting the the free flight "needle" into Al's arm........

As it is it is going to be summer before I can afford to do anything to my bike. Heck, I am still riding around with the scratched up paint from last years crash.

Roll on wheelies can be fun, but they are harder to control than clutched wheelies. all stunters use the clutch for this reason. A 9 should be able to roll on in first, and I can get my 12 to roll on in second, but not every time.

Daveinm, The wind would certantly head East! Might be a bit of propane though..........

The bodywork only has a few gouges that I can fix myself but I am scared to try my own paint ): On my needed parts list is a new/used exhaust pipe (mine has two big underside dents that I am sure are not helping the flow. Both mirrors are scratched up as is my swingarm.

I find these parts on Ebay every so often but I am broke until Summer. The balloon business should be good this Summer so I just have to show some patience.

I do the following and can do great wheelies...rolling along in first...scoot as far back on the seat as you can, get up to about 3k rpm, left completely off the throttle and then as soon as the front ends dips under deceleration slam the throttle about 3/4 open and the front end should easily come up and then you can vary the throttle to keep you up with a little practice.

i like to do this on the road toward my house so the neighbors will have even more reason to think i am a nuisance...yeehaw!!! thank God for fences

Better be on that back brake so u can ride it.. otherwise you might as well plan on doing a back of the head slapper.. just and FYI.. if you ride that back brake.. you can do wheelies all day long.. and ride them.. like i said above.. switching gears.. take your time..
WEAR YOUR GEAR!!!

I never do the rear brake thing, what does it do? I never really need it, because I sometimes freak out and back off the throttle and it comes back down. It seems to me that if you hit the brake too hard, you will go a$$ over tea kettle. I also don't care to ride a wheelie all day long, I like a nice big wheelie on my way up to break neck speed.

you use the rear brake to keep the bike from going over backward if you go past the balance point.
You have to use it gently or you will come down hard.
