Sounds right. I think one of the mags had the 9 topping at 137mph and the 12 at 143mph.
Don't forget speedos are notoriously optimistic, and can have errors as large as 10% at the upper extremes.

Well, I'm dissapointed, my top speed on the level is about 115, it was still slowly accelerating, but slowly, XB12SS, Drummer SS, Race ECM & Filter.

Now the rest of the story, my base elevation is around 3,000 feet, and most of the "good" riding is at or above 4000 feet going higher up to 7 or 8,000 feet. Any suggestions... besides me going on a diet which I need

Without sounding dour, do all of you RACE as in on a closed track or are your speeds on civilian roads? The reason I mention this is that here in La-la land (Los Angeles), it’s a FELONY if you’re caught going over 100mph. Meaning, the big house, the b*tch house, going to JAIL and not just getting a speeding ticket. Not that I wouldn’t love to hit 135mph+ but I kinda like my freedom and not having a guy as a girlfriend (uh, forced “girlfriend”, that is, in case anyone gets offended). I’m not too chickensh*t of high speeds, just the dire consequences and not necessarily crashing and dying a mangled death, either.

I don't think I would choose to have a guy as my girlfriend in the slammer. I know I don't want to be theirs either. : )

Yes, I have been guilty of excessive speed on my 12R, but only at 100, one time. I haven't even attempted to top it out and won't until I hit a track.

Mr. Buellmonkey,

IAW with section 22348 of the California Vehicle Code, "A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than 100 miles per hour is guilty of an INFRACTION punishable, as follows:
(1)Upon first conviction of a violation of this subdivision, by a fine of not to exceed five hundred dollars($500). The court may also suspend the privilege of the person to operate a motor vehicle for a period not to exceed 30 days pursuant to Section 13200.5."
The second and third INFRACTIONS raise the fine.

California has three basic categories: Felony, misdemeanor, and infraction, in order of severity.

I am a stoplight to stoplight bandit myself. Don't care for top speed, but I have hit about 110 before on the X. Take off and torque is where my CityX shines!

There are road in Texas (as in many other states) where you can ride as long as the road is far without seeing a soul.

In short: "You've got to pick your moments."

PCH is NOT the place. The 5 mile (slightly downhill the whole way) straight on Hwy 4 in BFE, Texas can be (and has been).

There, I've gone ~140 (indicated) mph on the XB. That's all she'll do!

Bigj,

Well, gullible me. My non-Buell drivin’ kinda “bad” “biker” friend was arrested for doin’ 122mph on his Panhead. He was booked and spent a night in jail. I think he appeared in whatever court district he was caught in and pleaded his case, as this was his third conviction. It did help that he was (is) a doctor. He got off (ahem). My mistake. I think his speeding fell under this vehicle code: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc23109.htm

15 years ago I managed to get busted for speeds "In excess of 150mph" It was very expensive to keep my "virginity". I ended up with 90 days house arrest and a felony record only because of a good lawyer.

100+ on a public road? DON'T DO IT!!! All it takes is one cop to say you were "evading" and it will change your life forever and not for the better.

I am now unemployable, can no longer own a gun, can no longer vote and god help me if I ever get charged for any kind of felony again as it is a mandatory five years in the state pen..........

In my defense it was an empty freeway in the middle of the night but the cop lied and said I ran from him. I stopped the second I saw the lights but could not beat him in court. I have not had a speeding ticket in 13 years...........

Not to say I don't play hard, I do. But unless I am riding with my CHP buddy I NEVER go over 100mph......... I got the Buell for carving, not high speed performance.

Thats right I have a CHP buddy for a riding partner.......... Don't worry to much about tickets when we are out..... He admits to some of his co-workers screwing people over in cases such as mine. So quote the vehicle code all you want but make no mistake you are gambling hard!

I also have another buddy that ended up with a felony conviction because of mistaken identity. He was passed by some guys evading and one of them had a Blue R-1 just like his. As far as the cop was concerned he was involved. It cost him $15,000 to stay out of prison.

I hate airing my conviction before everyone on this board but if it saves even one of you from the same mistake I made it will be worth it.

Going fast on public roads is not a game.....................

Thanks Skyguy,
A sobering reminder of why we should "take it to the track".

Don't do the crime if you can't do the crime is not something that normally comes to mind when speeding, or at least it didn't used to.
