Okay so I was wondering... rearsets? What is the benefit of rearsets? Is it to be in a more comfortable riding position? I am trying to justify the cost.. Thanks for all the help people.}

They look cool and are trick. What more justification does one need?!...Oh the wife? They make the bike safer...yeah that's it, safer!

There is probably a ton of other mods that you could do besides rear sets that would give you more bang for the buck. I like the custom rearsets, but I want to spend my money on go fast stuff and things that make a larger difference in the looks of my bike first.

Reasonable price is variant on the person.


Traditionally the purpose of rearsets are to "rear set" the pegs from the stock position. Basically to aid in cornering clearance and help with a more racing foot positioning. Generally the XB's have plenty of cornering clearance, and many of the units available dont actually move the pegs very far at all. The nice part is most of them are adjustable..........and they look really trick!

Frame pucks $35 and they will save your frame if you lay it down again, or axle sliders for $45 a set that will save your swingarm and forks too. Those might be easier mods to get your wife to be cool with.

It will be a long time before you're dragging pegs on an "R" often enough to justify moving them up and back.

Can't deny the "bling" factor though.

The only times I've hit the pegs, I just hung my a** off a little farther on the next lap and PRESTO - problem solved. No peg dragging.

Seriously, the pegs really do clear the ground very well in the stock positions - though the "S" not quite as much. If you have an S - and want a little more clearance, buy the hanger for the "R" and you'll gain something like an inch more clearance.

I am sitting at work trying to see in my Friday-tired mind's eye.

I was meaning the footpeg mount (I called it a hanger) - I was thinking it was longer on the S than the R - making the R up a little higher.

Either way, it's probably about $300 cheaper (assuming he has an S)

I use totally stock pegs and mounts on the racebike and still don't feel that I'm close to dragging the pegs (well... except for that crashing thing a couple times a year)

Chaconas (pits with all of us at Willow) has Sato rearsets on his XB and I freely admit to being totally in LUST after seeing them (but think they're something like $450)

I think I posted elsewhere that we use Satos on the race bike, but were not happy with the cost or brake and shifter design. James Banke is working on a simpler design that will use his bullet proof shifter and brake peddle. Al from American Sport Bike will be the source and I am delivering an XB to James next week for the fitting. They are based on the SATO dimensions, but will be one piece and cost less. ...
