I got feed up with the sidestand on my X so I fixed it where it is like a normal stand. All you have to do is cut the pin off the pivot bolt. I put a shorter spring on mine to make it fit really tight against the frame when raised. Works a lot better.

It is a simple thing to do. Takes 5 minutes.

About all you see in the picture is where I cut the pin from the top of the pivot bolt. That is all there is to it.

Hey MR, I want to do this Mod. I'm all about the mods...Why though? I know I probably don't ride to your level, but what does this gain you? Is it a leaning clearance thing? I have only touched a footpeg once.

Did they change the side stand after 2003? My side stand seems to be fine and I havn't made any modifications. I checked when I first bought the bike and its been replaced for the 2003 recall (An R is stamped into the bottom), but I don't seem to have the instability problems you guys seem to have. I regularly leave it running while warming up without a problem on the sidestand

I changed it because if someone just barely tilts the bike up right the sidestand folds up and then the bike hits the ground. No more rolling the bike backwards to put it on the sidestand. It is a great improvement and the only thing I did not like about my X.

Yes, they did change the stands, and had I not an '03 - it would be the first thing I'd change!

When you put the stand down (on current models) the stand centers it self straigh out/down and you have to rock the bike back on it to settle it. As mentioned, if some asshat is looking at your bike and sits on it or bumps it - that stand will spring back to the straight out position and the bike has better than a 50/50 chance of ending up on its' side!

It was done for rider safety but I'd rather encounter a faulty stand / engine cut-off switch that this!
