Yeah, I know, weird subject heading. But the truth is my XB12R frame has obtained some type of irremovable stain, almost like a bad chemical reaction to something that may have spilled on it. It happened at the dealer sometime between when they washed it, and when I picked it up.

It originally looked like a powderish residue that I thought would come right off. While the powder came off, it left the frame discolored. It kind of looks like someone sprayed it with engine degreaser, and then allowed it to dry on the frame.

Any idea what could take it off? Regular polishes don't phase it.

Clean it up and repaint it?

Buell sells color matched touch up & spray paint for our frames.

Dealer out to pony up for a can it seems.

Buellryder, I have a similar stain on my swingarm. I used the spray (aerosol) HD cleaner polish on it, and it did the trick. However, It will come back after time. Re apply as necessary. Good luck.

weird, i have stains on my swingarm (left side) that have been boggling me too. i'll give the HD cleaner a try, 'cause nothing else seems to get it off. i didn't use any harsh cleaner on it (gets S100 now and then), just appeared.

Thanks Jasonxb, I got a bad gas stain on my frame and have tried everything. I'll give the HD stuff a shot.

Frame stains can be annoying - you could try using this stuff:

(um, don't let your children watch it) : )

I prolly risk looking like a total pansy, but when I gas up, I ALWAYS grab paper towel/wipe from one of the window cleaner islands and hold it to/under the tip of the hose nozzle as I lift it over the bike and into / out of my tank... Have saved my bike inumerable spills and splashes.

You can use the Buell frame paint to cover it up.
Use a fine grit wet sand to rough it up a touch,
mask off areas that do not need paint and get to spraying.
I have painted areas on my frame and swingarm and nobody will ever be able to tell.

Midknyte, Its always a good idea to have some paper towels handy. Depending on what kind of "rubber guard" the pump has, I sometimes do the same. Also I have had some stains on my frame as well, I use Meguiar's Gold Class (paste car wax) it seems to be a permanent solution. Not to mention it gives the frame color a richer tint. I also use the stuff on the body panels, and wow.
Good luck with that

midknyte, doesn't sound pansy to me, gas sucks to spill. i go to a station up north where the kid who comes out to stare at the XB always gives me a rag. says his Pop taught him that so you don't drip on the 'tank'. smart kid ; )

btw, thnx for the cleaning recommendations. got a few new ones to try now.
