OK, the tail is complete. I now just have to decide what color to make it.
I thought of just painting the tail to match the color change green/gold of the rest of the bike, but I really like the way the red stands out. With the way people drive around here, I would like to be as visible as possible.

Looks good. IMHO you should paint it to match. If you want to be seen do what I did, get a Picotte replica helmet and matching jacket. The bright orange is perfect for making the cagers take notice! Plus since he was Harley's superbike pilot for so long it goes with the bike quite well.

Your bikes looking good. Could you post up some pics of how you mounted everything under the tail. I'm looking to do a full s to r conversion this winter and haven't been able to find any pics of how the "guts" go together. I have service manuals for both my 03 XB9S and an 04 XB9R, so putting it all together should be a snap. (I hope)
Thanks

Chris

Quite the project. Looks good too. To be seen by cagers, the helmet/jacket idea (backpack too maybe?) is best IMO. I don't think cagers will see enough of the tail from behind (head-on), and very little from the side when out riding.

Thanks for all the comments. I got pictures from someone here on Badweb to where to put everything under the tail. I can take pictures of my setup when I remove the tail plastic to paint it.

As far as changing my riding gear to get more visibility, I don't think I will be doing that since I just bought a Joe Rocket Super Ego in January. But I agree that the average idiot that tries to run me over wouldn't notice even if the bike was on fire.

I did think of repainting the bike to look like an American flag waving in the wind. I did that once on a RC car I use to race. I might be able to pull that off.
