Some twat in a Range Rover just reversed into my bike.
The frame is now dented, the swinging arm is all scratched, seat, air box, indicators , bars, foot rest snapped off etc...
Doesn't it you off, well it has me!!!

How damaged does the frame have to be to write off the bike???

OK it was raining and was not 100% familiar with the bike .. anyway .. there was a LITTLE ding on the frame right in the middle of the area where the frame puck now resides .. and the dealership was trying to write it off .....

"family oriented web site..."

Hence the reason , and are all little red dots...

Just pointing it out is all. I doubt the moderators will have a real soft spot in their hearts for words like "Twat".

/EDIT

Especially as the title of a thread.

Anyway back to the thread

The bike is only slightly damaged to each of those parts, the question is what are the views of the ins. companies over dented Buell frames.

Would the frame pucks cover the dent completely?

I think most insurance companies have a dealer look the bike over and then get a list of all the bits and pieces that got damaged. The assumption is that they'll be replaced, not repaired.

Frame replacement is pricey, start adding on all the bodywork, little things and labor and it's pretty soon that you get big bucks...

...BUT -

This is the PERFECT way to get a track bike! Talk to your insurance agent about putting in a salvage bid! Often insurance companies will total the bike if you make them a reasonable salvage offer - then they buy you a new one and you get the "wrecked" bike with salvage title and only cosmetic damage. Most insurance companies will work with you on this. If they get a big estimate of repair costs and can save money by totalling it, they'll cut their losses and give you a salvage title, the "wrecked" bike and buy you a new one.

Get repair/replacement estimates, contact your insurance company about what they'd want for a salvage bid and see what happens - you might be surprised.

I have 2 race frames with lots of big dents and scratches. Not pretty but perfectly usable.

Generally a dented frame on XB style bikes would warrant a frame swap and that equals totaled bike.

I agree with Bruce_bueller. I think that a frame swap equals a totaled bike on an XB.

If you have no-fault insurance you may have some recourse on your deductible. I believe(not an agent or lawyer) that if your vehicle is parked and not moving that the other person's insurance is responsible for the deductible. When my car was hit while parked my insurance company did not require me to pay the deductible. My agent told me that they recover that from the other party's insurance company. Now this may have changed in the last few years. Also, I am in Michigan and it may be different in this state.

Let's take the word in context here. In a dictionary of English (as in England) slang, a "twat" is "A contemptible person, an idiot." So, it was properly used here even though it carries a different meaning to the majority of us. Makes you want to go smoke a fag...

Yeah, what Brad said.
My mom's FLSTC was hit in a parking lot a few weeks ago and her insurance company went after the cage drivers insurance for the deductible . Here in semi-sunny N.H.

Howdy all, yeah well it must be D..k Heads day out for cagers.
(please excuse the use of language)
I was on my way to work, stopped at a STOP sign and some IDIOT runs into the back of me..
"Said HE DIDN'T SEE ME" Hmm which part of a Yellow Bike didn't you see.

Let me say, I went off at him.. Gave him a verbal piece of my mind, lesson in how to drive and show some respect for bikers. Also explained that a STOP SIGN usually means STOP.

I didn't drop my baby, held it up, It's in the shop at present, getting all fixed.
I got his drivers license, registration, make of vehicle, phone, address etc, just handed my report to insurance and said FIX, he's paying.

The damage is not major, just the feeling of being violated and not having my bike for a few days is what hurts.

Well that's my 2Cents on this whole issue.
