O.K., I've read the threads on the pipes and I've decided on the Buell Race Kit. Loaded the beast into the back of the truck tonight. Pip, ECM, K&N, TPS tomorrow morning. Doing this to keep everything under warranty (purchased xb12s 6/04). BTW is the 500 mi. break-in period for the bike or the rider? I'll let y'all know on the sound improvement (from the honda 350 stocker) tomorrow night.

Well, the deed is done. Awwwwwwsome. No problems with flat spots across the rpm curve. Eurotwins, you are right, I do enjoy the bike so much more. Again, no problems with TPS at all - is runs smooth and strong across thee board.

"break-in period for the bike or the rider?"

I wonder that myself sometimes. When I bought my bike I was surprised to hear the guy tell me "Go any speed, any rpm, just stay off the rev limiter".

I added "& don't lug it & give the cams a nice easy 20 minute break in first."

He responded with "yeah, You have the right idea"

So I'm thinking it's more for the rider to get used to the bike.

Congrats on the race kit. I'm jealous.

i noticed with my 12 and the kit that the bike runs quite cooler. rode all the way to corbin KY with no fan. (140 miles or so) before with the first 50 miles it would have started. throttle respoinse is better. my mechanic reset the AFV and it was the first i have ever heard it mentioned. as far as sound thats a totally new thread but lets just say that the sound alone was worth the price.

Just rode into work, first trip with the race kit pipe. holy sheet its loud. i researched the other options, (D&D, force, drummer) but man, this pipe is awesome. I at times have to keep the revs low cause im embarassed its so load - im sure to get over this. I predict Buell could double sales if this could be made a legal component - wishful thinking.

Also, Buellbalster, you're right, the engine does run much cooler. my ride last night and to work this a,m., the oil cooler fan did not come on at all - even when parked after the trip. This may be because the race pipe is better free flowing, dissipating the heat faster.

Plsdks, did you remove the snorkel when you put the kit in. i say that the more air flowing through that scoop, the higher flowing fliter along with the much better flowing exhaust contributes to the lower running temp. i love mine. my first reaction to it was why don't they come like this? i know the reasons they don't but i agree, sales would be better if they did.

My 9sx seems to run about the same if not a bit hotter than before I put in the race ecm, Drummer and K&N. Could this be a TPS/AFV issue? Set it myself. Bike runs good. Some popping on decel and an occasional hiccup off idle. Any ideas?

Mark,
Perfectly normal, keep riding, it only gets better....popping on decel is when the throttle plate is closed and the fuel ratio at idle is about 17.5 to 1 so it's gonna be lean and occasionally pop....

Thanks Kevin,
Should I be concerned with a lean condition or just let it be? Was going to try to reset TPS/AFV just to see if there is any change.

Pete, if you area embarassed about your race muffler... I will come ride next to you for a while...through traffic, and on the highway....

You will eitehr be deaf cause of mine, or you will feel alot better about yours...

My buddy have the race muffler on his XB, I dont find it loud at all, very nice mellow sound, pleasing to the ear at any RPM, and it doesnt make my neighbors crazy....

My D&D on the other hand....I havent heard anythign louder on a buell yet...

The Force is probally like 40 percent LOUDER,
Whole different sound...

HAve both one on a xb12cg, and the other xb12r

I used to love the sound of the D&D until I got my hands on a Force. LoL

Mark,
Leave it like it is, it's perfectly normal....My bike has done this, on purpose of course for years ....It is tuned that way to be efficient...the bikes that pop or cough once in a while with carbs are usually tuned perfect for street riding....It is only your idle airfuel ratio during decel that is causing this and you don't ride under decel, you just slow down....so go ride the frame off it!!!!!

ps. I meant the wheels!!!!

OK, 8 Hrs. at work and im over it (not embarrassed for the loud sound). Buellblaster - yes, the snorkel is history. Dealer installed the race kit, removed snorkel, adjusted TPS and drove it at 3200 rpm for the set up. Yes, slight popping on decel with throttle completely closed, ease off on the throttle to maybe something very minimal and then smooth even decel. (no pops at all). I think I agree with Kds1, the mixture is set correctly.

the way it is now if any more air ripped through the air filter, the damn thing would explode.

don't get me wrong, i love the way it sounds....very mellow.

i can't imagine the force being 40% louder - it would sound like the space shuttle at lift off, shaking your innards and everything around you.

Well i'm off to be obnoxiously loud and make some noise in traffic on my way home....and proud of it.

a loud good bye all.

Thanks again Kevin,
You DA MAN
I love this damn can
Although I think the popo are starting to take notice. Went by one who was filling up at the gas station at the corner by my house. He eyeballed me all the way around the corner. Of course I was deceling at somewhat high RPMs.
oops

The force may be louder in a XB, but I last week, a few of us gathered at Sheldons HD/Buell...

Tripp was there, he has teh Force...

I have the D&D, he fired his off, then I mine...

Yeah, in the case of mine vs his, I do seriously believe was a bit louder...

Of course, ours were the only 2 in teh group you could hear during our little fun run....

And no, he didnt have the baffle in...

Does it really matter, no....

I was gonna get the force later, for more noise(it is powered by HD after all)...but, I am gonna strick witht eh race header and D&D....

I think his may make a little more power though...not sure...

I dont know, my perception could be a bit tainted, but..if Tripp sees this, hopefully he will enllighten me/us...

Plsdks -

Just to clarify...I think Hogs is saying that the Force is 40% louder than the D&D. The D&D is much louder than the race can. Unable to come up with a simile louder than the space shuttle at lift off, I'll just say that the Force is very, very loud. I've heard one in person and it was too loud in my opinion.
