My 12 years of service to our country officially ended this past fathers day weekend. I look forward to receiving my Honorable Discharge from the US Navy and looking back foundly on my training, school, friends, active and reserve time.

I tried to get the XB back together and up to Loudon for the National, but had a great weekend that was planned by my family and friends. The metamorphosis is almost complete and in the next week or two I should be able to post pics of the finished XB "niner" race bike!!!! Hats off to ALL the Buelligans that raced this past weekend. Loudon is an absolute blast, the "Bowl" is the most fun I have ever had on a bike!!! I WILL Be at Loudon for the Next race weekend (23-24th JULY 05)

Pirate, it is a scary feeling when you finally let go. I put in 21 with the Army and I was scared to death getting out. Even though I had a good job lined up and things went semi-smooth. So much security for so long and then you're a civilian. It was and still is a strange feeling.
Anyways, I appreciate your service and I know how you are feeling right now!! Good luck...Odie

NO KIDS!!!! I did get engaged but draggin' tail AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!!!! Its a weird feeling thinking about all the options available through military service and different paths I could have taken. The past 2 years have been relatively easy as far as USN reserve obligations, my regular "civilian" job is in National Defense and Food Aid, with current events in the hot sandy places its been the most challenging so far. I must say my current career path is a 100% because of the Academy, USN and Maritime service. I served and continue to serve as part of the maritime transportation portion of supplies, fuel, personnel, and other things they really need. Some that are in or have been in the service all remember the SUPO(Supply Officer) if you were in good you could get anything. I was not attached to that end of the chain, more of the Beans & Bullets end, the big moves, not daily supplies. My favorite time was a Med Cruise back in 96 doing Unreps all over the Med getting 2 week breaks in Spain,Crete & Sicily. Thats the year I got the weekend off in Rota and headed to Jerez for the 500cc GP. Absolutely Awesome.....

I appreciate the thanks, but I salute all the guys on the ground, air & sea that are over seas right now. They are the tip of the sword, America's bravest. I would do anything my country asks to ensure our freedom and defend our constitution, thats what I signed up for. My story is no where near any of our active duty military serving in our present conflict.

I thank all ya'll, no matter how ya served.
We need everyone we have, and everyone we get.
I'm just glad there are those that choose to serve when they don't really have to.

Are you going to be like the rest of us? Grow a beard, turn all your fatigues into shorts, and within a year think about how much fun the service realy was? I miss the people, the parties, and the "screw the bullcrap, just get the job done" mentality.

Welcome back. It's good to have some fellow military here on the board. Even though you NAVY guys call my service the shallow water navy (USCG).

Welcome back to the real world. I got out of the Navy in 93 (did 6 years) Definitely do your disability screening before you get out and don't forget you EARNED your VA benefits. Be sure to get back some of what you gave to your country. It's the least a grateful country can do for you.

I second Diablobrian suggestion.... I learned the hard way.. It is surprising how many "little" problems pop after you get out and "re-adjusted".

Countless jumps with round rig no matter how you land - back problems, knee problems, and stress fractures.. Without the screening you will get wrapped up in government brand red tape. And learn a new definition of "hurry up and wait"

Actually, Justin, we Navy guys refer to you as "Puddle Pirates". Just kidding. I think for the most part we're equally proud of our fellow servicemen and women regardless of their branch.
But we do call the U.S.M.C. Uncle Sam's Misguided Children.
Sorry. Trying to bait my Bro-in-law.
