at 8400 miles, my xb9s has an electrical gremlin. it is at the dealer now and they are trying to track down the problem. it has smoked the last 2 coils that have put on it. obviously a short somewhere. the front plug wire was almost worn through from rubbing on the frame. the new ones have a pre-formed curve to prevent it from rubbing. i hope it is done for homecoming, cause i don't want to be the outcast on my 1200 sportster sport, but i guess that would be better than being bikeless!

Here is my experience:

If you ride in the rain, the front wire/plug will undoubtedly get moisture in it. My wires have almost rubbed through also. The Sportser coil will not work unless both plugs have current running through them. Maybe the Buell is the same way.

I'm going to be replacing my plugs soon. Figure I should pick up that plug grease to use on the wire caps. Keeps the water out.

I had the same thing happen on mine as well about 2" or so away from the coil connection on the front wire the insulation was rubbed through to the fiber mesh. Just got some new plug wires and they are noticably beefier and angled in the right places...I expect they will do better even though they cost about 250% more.

I would have a set of plug wires when one goes to change the plugs just to make sure...

Problem solved, after smoking 3 coils. It was an ECM issue. Glad i won't be riding the sportster at homecoming!

lots of fun, even on the sportster. 100 mph 2 up going down the airport runway feels way faster than actual speeds. vibration so bad it blurs your vision.
