Wanted to install an oil temp gauge onto my 12S. I used this on my '91 GSXR750 race bike back in the day. The sensor replaces the drain bolt via an adapter. Does anybody know the thread of the XB oil drain bolt.

Wow, interesting. Looks like the only gating item is that if they have a drain bolt/temp sensor that is the same size as our drain bolt. |

Why not run a "T" fitting off the pressure sensor?? |

By putting a "T" on the the pressure sensor you will not get a true temp reading. The temp sensor will pick up the temp from the engine case. Like a cage, the only way to get an accurate reading is to put it in the pan or in our case the sump. |

Little off topic here, but can anyone explain the difference between a dry sump vs. wet sump oil pan? |

If I'm not mistaken, a "dry sump" is a remotely located oil supply. That is to say the engine does not have the oil reservoir directly under it and open to the crank case. |

Argh! My parts book doesn't list thread pitch & size! If you can hold on for a few hours longer, I'll check our stock & measure one for ya. Also, Bbstacker is right, dry sump is a remotely positioned oil tank, like the XB, wet sump is oil housed in the engine, like the VRSC. |

Thanks Odinbueller. I checked with the manufacturer and they only have metric adapters. I am going to see if my friend at the machine shop an make one for me. The sending unit is PT 1/8. |

you might check with some auto parts stores. I have purchased metric to standard adapters for brake line work before. You might not have to have an adapter made that way. Try this link for example. http://www.ffcobra.com/FAQ/brakelines.html (Message edited by captainplanet on May 03, 2005) |

I would be interested in picking up a small temp reader for the oil. |
