Over the weekend I decided to cut off the pasta strainer thing on the back of my XB12S. I borrowed my friends air tools to cut and sand before I painted the lower half flat black. I used some aluminum from a local hardware store to make the license plate and blinker mounts. I also bought 2 white LED and mounted them in the 2 grommet holes that the original blinkers wires went through to light the plate.

That is FANTASTIC! Since I am working on the same project right now with my XB9SX, I would love to see a better picture of the license plate bracket that you created out of aluminum. Do you have any directions that you would be willing to share? And how about some part numbers on the LEDs? Once again, you did a really good job. Thanks.

Another Blake. How cool is that. Nice work. Of course I'd expect no less and assume you are also worldly, handsome, quick witted, astoundingly intelligent and loved by all. Not like me at all. joker

Pa_xb9sx - I don't have any more pictures but I tried to draw it out. Hope it helps. I used a 3/32 sheet of aluminum, cut it to an "L" shape, drilled my holes, tapped for the license plate screw and bent it at the indicated locations. The led were just some high intensity ones from my local radio shack #276-320. They were rated at 3.6v 20mA and I used a 470ohm resister to step down the voltage. I found washer that fit perfect where the grommets used to be and secured it with liquid acrylic. I then secured the led in the washer with a LED holder #276-080.

Thank you Blake808. I understand the schematic. I only have one more question. What holes did you bring the turn signal wires through? Did you drill two more in the tail section? Thanks.

blake808, i agree with the others that your bike is looking good. i haven't taken the plunge yet and am still sporting the strainer. i'm thinking of different ways to do this. has anyone tried mounting their license plate to the swingarm?

Pa_xb9sx - Yes, I did drill 2 new holes in the tail section. If you are going to run the blinker wire through new holes I would suggest grommets or shrink tubing to protect the wires.

Builtbyted - Go to http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/95650.html Xbjelly9s has his plate mounted on the swing arm.
