Alright. I am bikeless right now, and I've got to get something before the summer gets here. I was looking at getting a new Triple, but have also been looking at the XB S bikes since they came out. I have recently started thinking about the Monster S2R, but still thinking of the Buell. I have a few questions.

What should I be buying a leftover 03 or 04 for? I really don't like the City series, so I figure I'll save a bit and get a bike I like better than the new ones. I live outside of Philadelphia, so I have a number of dealers to choose from. Anyone have any experience with a good dealer in this area?

I'm not sure about whether or not to get a 9 or a 12. Most of my riding experience (except for a short month on a Triumph Sprint) has been cruisers, so I'm not addicted to immense amounts of power.

Last, how does a taller rider fit on either the 9 or the 12 S? I'm about 6'2'' 230 lbs.

Any info is appreciated.

J, I couldn't help you concerning the "S" as I have an R, but I can relate to you in terms of biking background. Before my XB all I ever rode on the street where cruisers. What helped me make the decision was a test ride. I was looking at several bikes, but only the Buell dealer allowed me to take it for a spin. I'm about 6-1, 210 , and did'nt think I would be comfortable on the Buell, but I was surprised and impressed. I think you will find many people on this web who love their bikes, but most will tell you... "Take one for a ride, then decide". I have a 12, added a few things, and use it for everything from commuting to road trips. As for 9 or 12, again I say , ride them, of course, I like the 12
Good luck

Ditto, above statement, my last bike was a Busa with a MCExpress Turbo on it. But the Buell always puts a smile on my face..6'1 275lbs. Fits just fine.XB12S.

I have an 04 XB9SL (low version, seat hieght is about 1- 1 1/2 in. lower) and I love it. I sometimes wish I would have gotten the 12 tho, since I like to pull the front end up alot. But dont get me wrong my 9 with the D&D, K&N, 12 airbox, will pull the front end up any time I want in first its just easier on a 12. Daily riding on a S is very comfortable and I have no problems. So far I've put 2900 miles on it since Jan. 6th. For size I'm 6' and 200 lbs.

Hope it helps. GET A BUELL. JOIN THE CLUB! HAVE FUN!!!!!

I ride a 9S and love it. I am also a HD/Buell tech at Liberty HD in Rahway, NJ..I have ridden the 9 and the 12 and as you can see I paid my money for a 9. They accelerate quicker and rev higher. We also have several 03 ahnd 04 lightnings in stock at great prices. We have an 03 demo that is yellow at a real nice price. Phil

I'd say get an 04 12S. You'll probably want a 'streetfighter seat' to allow more room to move around. - maybe you can make a deal with it.

Best advise, is road test 'em!

I would make one suggestion, check insurance rates on both before you purchase. The 12 may result in higher rates than the 9. From the specs and several discussions, you can get almost as much power out of the 9 with a few simple mods as can be had from the 12 for less than the price difference.

PC...good call on insurance. My XB9S went up about $1100 in one year...$3something to $14something. I paid it off before the policy renewal and just carry liability now.

I have ridden bikes with lots of power through the years, but the 9 is a sweetie and lots of fun. It gets lots of attention too.

Lots of debate on the 9 versus 12, but I prefer the S model also...personal choice. I think you will be satisfied with either the 9 or the 12. I suggest you ride both/rent 'em if needed, then decide. Price may be the tie breaker. My 9 has been virtually maintenance free and economical. No valves to adjust when you do the routine stuff.

Cannot help you on the height question...only 5'7" here.
