I recently procured a pre 2013 (Buell version) Chain Drive conversion kit. The installation was not an issue however, the factory instructions and drawing were lacking.

I have a couple of questions for those who have installed the Buell version of thew kit. I assume that the Buell version of the kit is the same as the pre 2013 EBR version.

1. The idler sprocket aluminum axle supplied with the kit will not fit through the idler sprocket bearing. Should it be a slip fit through the bearing? If so, does the sprocket stay in location due to the chain? I can mount the aluminum axle in my drill press and sand the OD to fit through the spacer if need be.

2. The kit has the Endurance Racing axle nut. This is the type that has a flange that is fastened to the swing are slide The axle will thread into the nut maybe 2 turns then stops. Should it be an interference fit? Do I need to try to thread it through with a big socket wrench? Should the threads be lubricated before threading?

I am ready to mount the chain but was held up when I found that my new D.I.D. Chain Tool was sent without the rivet pin. On hold for now.

It's a press fit. I use an arbor press. You might also consider freezing the aluminum bit and using a good grease to press it.

For the axle, will it thread from the other side? As in, try putting the axle in backwards just to see if it will fit through the receptacle that has the threads.

Regarding the press fit, where is the sprocket located on the aluminum spacer? My kit directions do not provide that information. I can press it in, I just did not want to do it until I verified the fit.

The axle threads in about the same on either side. The threads look OK on the axle and the flange nut. Does anybody know what size the thread is?

Center the sprocket on the spacer. The spacer will be held immobile against the rear set. You will feel the chain the peg, 'specially on decel!

If the axle doesn't thread easily, try a touch of lube, if still doesn't work, you have a mismatch. Time for a trip the the machinist for a part....

I tried some anti seize and I can thread a bit further but then stops. Looks like I need to measure the threads and figure out what part is off.

This is a hand fabricated part. All parts must be checked and trimmed as necessary prior to final fit, no two are the same. Check everything first. Very little on my kit was a bolt in.

Everything fit quite well except the threads on the axle. I assume the endurance axel was a thight fit to keep from backing out but there seems to be something wrong with either the axle threads or nut threads
