After doing my rotor upgrade, it seems as though my sprag is starting to go. I did the torque specs perfectly, and after thinking it may just be loose, I took the screws out and re torqued them. I used the green loctite both times, I believe it's 648? It still has a hard time starting and occasionally reaches a “dead spot” where the starter just spins.

My research/mechanical knowledge points to sprag clutch, which brings me to my question: where do I find a replacement? I cannot seem to find any. Do any of you guys have one?

I just made it home from a 2,400 mile trip from CO... started up every time with a little motivation even at 14,800ft : )

Picked a new one up at my local harley shop after doing the same upgrade last winter. I believe any harley dealership can order them still. I dont remember the price though didnt hurt the wallet that bad.

Surdyke also has them.

Price wise $130-150 depending on where you go. Part number is Y0536.1AM. You should also replace the housing around it, and the starter gear. You will have to remove the rotor nut, so add that to the list, and a new gasket for the cover, just in case. I did mine about 4 months ago and was able to source all of the parts from new castle HD except for the gasket, which came from American Sport Bike. All in all I paid about ~$400 IIRC

I just picked up all of the parts as well. I recommend getting the housing and the gear otherwise the new sprag can be damaged.

I just replaced the housing, sprag, and starter gear. The most expensive was the sprag. It all cost around $600 by the time you figure in rotor nut, gasket, loctites, new oil/filter and the crank lock tool. New castle had the best prices. EBR has the best prices for the nut and gasket. And my local Can-Am dealer has filters for $10.
How many miles do you have? I think we can start putting together this as another perishable to be replaced on this bike.

I agree with this being a perishable item. It wears just like everything else. Just when it goes is a different story for everyone. Mine went about 13k miles. I've heard others going at 40k miles. Problem on this one is, parts are in limited supply. I'm really hoping Twin starts manufacturing these items soon. Does anyone know if the new 1190's use the same system?

Awesome, thanks guys. The Buell just turned 30k miles on the trip I mentioned, I think it's half way to 31, but it's needed it since 28k.

Before the trip I took the cover off to perform a visual check and everything looks just fine, so I don't believe I'll need the starter gear or even the housing; is this wrong to think?

Mine needed it around 28k too. It would clank sometimes when I would turn it off. It's an unmistakable sound. You won't be able to tell the condition of the starter gear unless you pull it out of the sprag. It's all hidden from view since its mounted to the back of the rotor. If you google sprag clutch I had a thread with pictures of all the items and how they were worn. I didn't chance it and replaced all the components involved. They all had a little wear. Some more than others.

The sprag clutch gear & flywheel on my 2008 1125R needed to be replaced at 62,711 miles.

I had no problem at all getting the parts. The local HD/Buell dealer had them in 4 days. Quit honestly, I have not had problems getting any parts for the 1125R. And i bought a lot of parts this summer.
