Another update. I took the starter and bench tested it. The current levels in the electrical manual for the starter at 25-40 amps. First test was 32 amps. Good. I repeated the testing until the starter got hot to the touch. Final test was 27.8 amps. I know the starter gets hotter than that on the bike.

out here in the SWest it really get's cookin in the summertime...I added a big Gauge ground wire to the bike...maybe it'll help your issues...scroll down for pix and part no.s..hope this helps

Really interested to see how this goes..... I'm in the same boat, with one exception.

If I jump it with my car, the bike fires right up.

Be VERY careful jumping a bike with a car. Make sure you jump off the battery only, not with the car running. You can damage very important things jumping off from a running car.
