As those that have read my recent posts know, I'm completely new to the 1125r. Did my first oil change last night. It ended up having to work weird due the lateness of the hour. I changed the oil, but couldn't start/check the oil last night. I rode to work, 12 mins, 8 mi, and checked when I got there just now. Following the correct checking procedure, the oil appears to be sitting right on the ADD mark. No oil pressure light or anything. I added 2.7qt during the change...I feel like it should be higher than that? Just want some advice. I will add that I probably let the bike drain longer than normal; I cut open and inspected the filter while it was draining. I did a normal oil change, did not pull the screen. Newbie question I know, but I don't feel like there is such thing as a stupid question. I'd rather ask and be able to ride, then not ask and blow a motor up. | ||

Chris, I have had the same thing happen to me. I clean the screen at each oil change so I put 3 quarts in each time. Just add a little and ride it. It won't take much. Then check it. I can't see it blowing at the add mark. Scott | ||

When changing the oil and filter, just add 3 quarts and you're done. Then if you do the hot oil check it may still show just slightly more than the add Mark. But if you try to add more oil to hit the full mark on the dip stick you run the risk of oil pumping into your air box/air filter while riding which makes a huge mess to clean out. | ||

3 quarts and done. I gave up on the hot check after stripping the dip stick threads and annoying results When the bike is cold, sitting straight up and level the oil will just hit the tip of the dip stick - cold check | ||

Tbow +1. Per the EBR guys, if you drop both drain plugs, oil screen and change the filter, refill with three quarts and you're done. The oil check procedure is an unnecessary PITA. If you don't drop the screen, then 2.7 quarts is probably closer to the amount to refill with. |
