I just stumbled across this link courtesy of google:

http://www.bdkraceeng.co.uk/Race%20Alternators.htm l

They list one for the 1125R. OK it's not cheap (at all) but it is interesting.

I have dropped them a mail to see what the output rating is and whether they think it'd work in a "street" bike (reliably).

Has anyone else come across this before?

Stuff like this can be the real deal, but it's a poor choice for you.

They are designed to be just good enough to power fuel injection and basic electrical parts on a bike. Generally, they are a good choice for endurance racers who would be using total loss systems if they were sprinting only.

that looks a lot different than the pics i've seen of ours. looks like that rotor fits inside the stator vs encompassing the outside. wonder if the magnets are same strength windings are same but without the shroud of the OE stator it'll shed heat better.

At 1000 bucks it better work.
It WILL run cooler with no rotor in the way of oil to the stator.
Throttle will be MUCH snappier with less flywheel weight.
Might be a good idea to add an oil slinger on the end of the rotor.

If it gives as much power as the 08s then hmmmm...

well you can get just the rotor with magnets for 223 im thinking that for the throttle response and extra insurance(i have an 08) it might be worth looking into

well i looked up some stock stator pics and i don't see how their internal rotor would work with a stock stator. not to mention that the pic they have shows a stator with 9 poles and the OE stators have 12

I've had a response from the company:

Hello Jules,

The generator for the Buell turns out around 10A, or about 120W – but only at 7k rpm. As such this would be no use for a road bike, as it would be producing significantly less power below those revs. The generator is designed for race use only,if it were adequate for a road bike it would not be so good for racing.

Included in the price is a stator, rotor, stator holder, backplate, reg/rec (which must be used with the rest of the generator NOT a standard reg/rec), and wiring connectors.

It was designed for the latest model of Buell before they went bust, in fact we had made a half dozen that they were very happy about – ordered a further 100 and sadly went bust in the next fortnight. If memory serves this was 2010.

Thank you for your query,

So not really what I need but something for the racers...

If you *really* want to keep the revs up...

BTW, what did they quote you? Sounds like they have a few hand fulls of them with no market.

The price was as per the website (no discount offered) I suspect they never got around to making the extra 100.. If you're overseas you could ask them for an ex-VAT price which would offset the shipping costs but you'd still be looking at ~$900 (VAT is 20% at the moment)
