I've got a Barker on my 1125r. It was really loud stock so I added the quiet core but it still has a tendency to reverberate under my helmet and give me a headache if I don't wear earplugs on anything longer than short trips around town. I really like the looks of the Keda RT3 and the APH exhaust but my main concerns would be not losing a noticeable amount of power compared to the Barker (not an issue with the RT3 but haven't seen dyno results for the APH yet), and not needing earplugs to keep the exhaust from pounding my head. The second qualification is the most subjective. Those of you with experience with either of those exhausts, please let me know how your ears respond to helmeted riding without earplugs. Thanks! | ||

Sounds like a helmet issue more than an exhaust issue. Different helmets will affect the way sound and vibrations get transfered into your skull. Also, you should be wearing earplugs if you hit highway speed regardless of what bike or exhaust you have, but I'm not gonna lecture you. | ||

Danny, the tip is aimed in the slightly down position as opposed to 90 degrees out to the side. I get where you're going with that question--I'll try it in the other position and see if that helps. Jeep, I've got a Shoei RF900. An older helmet but one that sat unused for a long time so it's not as "worn out" as it would be if it had been consistently used. My brother has an RF1000 so I'll have to try it but he won't be in my neck of the woods for a month or so. Jas, I was thinking $300 shipped for the Barker. It's got about 2k miles on it and includes (obviously) the quiet core. Froggy, I understand the earplug comment. I'm wondering if anyone else with a Barkers exhaust (or the RT3 or APH) have experienced the reverberation I'm speaking of. On my other bikes, I can use in-ear headphones which block out a lot of wind noise but on my 1125, the exhaust is even more penetrating than the wind and it overpowers the noise muffling headphones. | ||

I've got one of the newer Buell helmets and my RT-3 resonates inside. I have never needed ear plugs before putting the pipe on. When I road around the track at Road America, I didn't have my helmet on and it was tolerable...soon as I put my helmet on to leave it came back. For me it's noticeable standing next to it at idle. Now I know that Dean has a quiet core and I have been told depending on your tip design and direction (I have slash cut pointed at about 4 o'clock) it affects the sound. Now that being said, I don't have it tuned so it runs a little rough. I like the looks of it and the quality is outstanding as is the customer service! My buddy won't ride on my right anymore, so I am gonna have to make some changes. | ||

Flesh, I have the Barker's turned straight out (3 o'clock position) with a Scorpion EXO-1000 and I don't have any problem with reverb inside the 'ole bucket ... I ride around town with no plugs -- longer trips constitute earbuds/plugs. | ||

I rode many long rides with a hmf pipe. I started to get irritated with the humming noise in the Helmet. I decided to try some plugs and a helmet. It wasn't much better. So I took the helmet off and wore ear plugs. It was pleasent sounding without the helmet. One had to go exhaust or helmet. I chose to keep the helmet. |
