Just a shout out of thanks to all who gave me tips about installing the side fairings.

Here is the picture I promised when finished. She is a looker!

Thanks for the posts. I will get a side shot for you guys. Actually this is a 2008 that was color changed by New Castle Harley Davidson/Buell in PA. I purchased it when all the frenzy was going on after Harley killed Buell (Don't get me started). The color change was for a different look on the showroom floor in 2008 and they never sold it. It was in a storage building when the mandate was given.

Jeff at Klapec Auto Body in Cranberry, PA painted the fairings by sight (he is not human!) He did a paint repair on my Fat Boy that has a very difficult paint by sight as well. Perfect match.

Be sure the exhaust pipe is wrapped where it comes close to the inside of the fairing, or add some insulation to the inside of the fairing. The factory supplied insulation that sticks on is not enough. I'd hate to see how my fairing would look right now if it was painted. I have a black 2008, so the lower already matched. The color is in the plastic. When the heat got to my fairing, it had no paint to burn. I caught it early. You have to be at just the right angle to see where it melted. It IS visible on the outside. I wrapped the exhaust pipe, and added some insulation on the inside of the fairing. I have had no problems since.

Thanks for the tips. I took the advice of some of you and purchased the Thermotec heat shielding and threw the stock crap away. I did not wrap the pipe though and probably will take your advice and do it. I still need to install the spacer and longer bolt that someone recommended. I just wanted to get them on before they got rashed up with my wife moving them around.

Worked late so I will get a side picture tomorrow or Saturday.

I feel privileged to have gotten an advance look at the beauty. She did turn out nice. We have to roll up some more miles yet this fall.

That looks great in red!

+1 for changing the heat shield on the inside. I burnt through my first one then caught it early on the 2nd one.

I added some washers and tweaked the right side brackets. No extra heat shield needed.

I added the spacer and longer bolt and replaced the heatshield with thermotec, i haven't wrapped the pipe and mine's holding up fine...barely feels warm on the outside now.

I've seen some red R with the black fairings and thought they looked great, in red it looks fantastic too..

I wonder how blue matching the wheels would look on my white/blue 1125R?

John has me thinking about the fairing kit.

Only folks that truly know Buells can tell mine is an 08 from the frame and wheels. I don't think it clashes. I go for unique and given the dealership changed the color was one thing that jazzed me. The other was it was getting darn hard to find any R's when I started looking late in the game. A buddy of mine bought their 09 white/blue and another guy bought a black 08 with fairings. That was all they had. It's a small dealer.

Ok, here is the side shot that was requested. Don't got no good looking girl on though. Seems to be a shortage of those at the moment.
