2009 CR with charging harness improvement and clutch seal kit, twice.

The last time I took Ginger in to the H-D shop a couple weeks ago to get the clutch seal fixed for the second time and asked them to specifically check the stator and voltage regulator b/c of all the accounts of failure. On top of that, by the time I got home from my last weekend trip down to OC, MD (I'm up near Baltimore) my voltage readout was 11.2 Vdc. I plug her in every night to a trickle charger ... every single night.

Coming home from Gettysburg tonight -- beautiful night, cooling down a bit, I look down a see my battery light on. Damnit. Switch the IC to the voltage readout: 12.0 Vdc. You gotta' be kidding me. Made it past Littlestown on MD Rt. 97 S ... about half way home now ... voltage reads 10.8 Vdc. I'm cursing up a storm and keeping my revs up around 5-6 K RPM at this point just thinking about when, where, and how the bike's gonna die on me.

Made it back to Westminster ... Main Street: 9.9 Vdc. Ran the red light -- cautiously mind you -- trying to just get it up the largest hill in town (Green/Bond Street). Watching the volts ... bike's starting to run funny ... 9.2 ... 9.0 ... 8.8 ... 8.6 ... putt, putt, done.

it H-D ... time to stop cutting corners. Propose a solution and make it happen ... stop telling your techs to just hook up to the battery with a multimeter when the bike first starts ... off course it's going to read fine, there's no heat soak in the stator yet!! Re-tards.

Sorry about that. I just got done pushing my bike 3.5 miles home, up the largest, steepest hill in town with the home boys laughing. But you know what, I still love this bike. I just want it to work.

I was told there is a meeting going on with the regional service rep/tech/guy/dude at my local dealership this next week to try and find a solution. could be helpful, could be smoke and mirrors. time will tell. Someone around my area has been taking very good notes on what all his bike does as far as the charging system goes and mine has been in there a few times. i told them this is my transportation 95% of the time. Unless there is ice, sand (from ice), or its raining severely I am on my motorcycle. I need it to run properly and reliably. telling me to ride with the high beam off and keep the revs up isn't a fix. that might help but does not eliminate problem. its time to step up for sure.

Jeepinbueller - My bike's stator died 1 mile from where I could park it. A 7 hour ride ended with me all leathered up on a hot day struggling with the demands of pushing a bike.

Yeah, I was stuck pushing in a heavy leather jacket, a backpack full of stuff, heavy Kevlar-lined jeans, and riding boots ... up a huge hill that's about 100 yards long.

Man that sucked ... I just wish the techs at the dealership took my complaint of the charging system more seriously, knowing full well that the 1125s are having major problems with them.

I seriously doubt HD is going to do anything to fix it besides installing the same stator. Aprilia is still selling bikes and they have similar stator issues, yet have done nothing. Maybe they all consider a stator as a wear item, like a spark plug.
