I noticed something lately, if I ride at low rpms (3K-ish) around town for 10 min or so, my voltage goes really low... enough for the engine (and battery) light to go off, yup, around 11.5 or so. I guess if i keep riding at low rpms it might go lower. But as soon as I get some clean road and I can go over 5K rpms, everything goes normal (around 13.7-13.8v).

The thing is that the bike is a little too loud to ride it at 6K around neighborhoods at 6:30am : ) but the issue is that I don't remember this happening before!

I just want to know if I should change something, as long as the bike doesn't die, I am cool with it. I have a solar battery tender so when its parked its fine.

Any ideas? Can be battery? stator? or the Erik Buell Racing ECU?

More than likely the stator. There's a large thread on this very topic. I also have this problem on my 09 CR. I do keep it plugged into the Battery Tender when at home to save the battery.

My dealer never gave me any trouble about my Drummer with no DB killer on it. You should be fine.

Hector:
In order for the charging system to keep up with the electrical requirements, you need to be turning 4-5,000 rpm. So 6k is not required.

Short trips are especially bad since the charging system does not have time to make up for the heavy current draw during starting.

Yeah, short trips or heavy traffic .. the latter is my case.. I guess I need to stop trying to commute in the bike, DC traffic is horrible!

Technically it was a Harley.

So I guess you could sit and rev it up at every stop light and be ok, right?

LOL

kinda funny about how it would seem that no matter what kind or style of 'harley' you have they just don't like sitting still...

LOL @ poppinsexz ... Actually coming back I had to do it... dammit... stopped at the light, went down to 11.7 in about 45 secs, couldnt pass the light because of traffic and yup, let's rev it up LOL . let me tell you, the stator thread and the burning thread came to my mind... sitting there at 90 degrees and revving the engine didn't help my right leg. So, when the girl asks why I have a red spot in my leg I will answer, my bike stator : )
