i think my fuel pump may be fried.
can i replace it with a pump from an 08?
the reason i ask the question is due to mismatched part #'s

P0130.1AMD for '08
P0130.1AMJ for '09

Both part numbers are the same, only difference is the revision code.

In part number speak, that would be considered an upissue pump so the 1AMD is not available, nor the preferred part. You'd want the 1AMJ.

Your dealer knows this. If not, call customer service and ask for their help.

the reason i'm considering it is that i can get the P0130.1AMD for half the price of a new P0130.1AMJ. ...

can some one explain what excatly 'upissue' means?
im guessing it means something along the lines of 'more-better'

I think the 08 and 09 frames are the same, so i would imagine that the fuel pumps would have to be the same as well.

buell likes to supersede old p/n's with new ones. I think what froggy is saying, is that both p/n's are for the same part.

I don't know who posted up the anony post, but i would trust froggy, he is very knowledgeable.

Yes both are essentially the same part, both will work. The last character on the end (for most parts at least) is like a version code. The J is further down the alphabet and is newer and replaces D.

As for the difference between the two, I couldn't say. Could of just been a supplier change, or it could of been a major upgrade. Fuel pumps don't exactly fail a lot, I would get the older part since its half price.

i am hoping the only difference is the paint/powdercaot on the back/exterior or a supplier or some other kinda minor issue.
thanks for the quick responses, guys
-if anyone else has insight on this, don't hesitate to speak up!-

i'll try to get the best deal on a P0130.1AMD and get this bike back on the road.

If a part was painted it would have a color code on it. Usually at least.

From everything i've heard about '08 fuel pumps, is they throw the LFL all the time, mine is doing it right now. Something to do with it not giving right voltage readings to the cluster so it thinks it's low on fuel. The '09 and '10 have the revised fuel pump that would fix this problem.

Correct me if i'm wrong, just what i've put together looking online.

My bike is in the shop right now for the LFL staying on all the time, i have a picture with my reserve saying it has over 400 miles.....i dont know how a bike could go from springfield, il. to des moines, ia on nothing but reserve and me filling it up every 100 miles...lol

Glad i bought that 5 year extended warranty for the bike, it's paid for itself already
