Had a cracking ride to a friend's tonite, lovely fast sweeping roads, lots of empty space and a warm evening.

On the last turn before I got there I heard a scraping noise and looked down.

Yup, you guessed it (the thread title gave it away didn't it?) - the sidestand spring had disappeared... and so had the plate... and it also appears as though the sidestand interlock (switch) has gone too (probably just as well as otherwise the engine wouldn't have run..

Guess I need to go back to the dealer again LOL

My friend couldn't figure out where the spring would have attached.

It seems to have smashed the sidestand switch off too (it's a UK bike)..

Hope the parts are readily available - anyone happen to know if they're on backorder?

Just went through it my friend. Hopefully you have a dealer that has experience. My dealer ordered the kit and it did not come with everything it was a 3 week process.

This link will help on what's suppose to be in the kit.

Sorry to hear that Jules. Hope it gets fixed fast.

Sorry to hijack a bit here, but I have been meaning to post about this for a bit. In diagnostics mode, there is a place where I can see if my kickstand is down or not... wondering why they didn't make it kill the bike if you try to take off in first being that there is obviously a switch there...

Anyone know?

No switch there on US bikes.

Safety wire that spring to the upper hook attach point, it's the hooks that break, not the spring. That way when either of the hooks break that's all you will lose and can be easily fixed with local hardware parts.

Cheers - I'll do that.

The dealer has offered to order the parts without seeing the bike if I e-mail over some hi-res images of the kickstand area so I'll do that tonight. He'll e-mail back to tel me how long they'll take to arrive.

Ordered a spare set from Australia too just in case : )

Dipstick,
Can you snap a pic of what you mean? It is tough for me to visualize and my bike is at the dealer for the harness install.

Avc8130, I am away from my bike for a few weeks due to work constraints, but with your bike sitting with the kickstand down:

Start your safety wire (.032 dia.) around one of the upper coils of the kickstand spring (three or four coils from the top of the spring) and then run it up to the UPPER spring attach point. (the safety wire will be sharing the same hole that the upper hook attaches to on that little "arm" inboard of the kickstand) That way it dosen't matter which hook breaks, you will still retain the spring and the remaining good hook.

99buellx1, there is a switch on the us bikes... or at least mine... I can see with a 0 or 1 whether the kickstand is down or not on my cluster...

Something has to be telling the cluster that.

Have you ever tried to see if the value ever changes when you raise/lower the ECM? The results may shock you.

By the look of things the parts from Australia will be here before the parts from my local dealer

Ah well, no biggie, I'll just fit them and ride around until the parts come in at the dealer

I'll definately lockwire them on though LOL

I have to say I was really impressed that the sidestand is "safe" even with the spring broken, that says a lot for the mindset of the guys at Buell, it's a shame the spring seems to be made out of old beer cans LOL

Avc8130, you can raise and lower the ecm? isn't that in the pod...? So, do you mean I can raise and lower the pod and make the bike transform? Tjats woulds be awsomes!!!1`1

What button do I press for this transforming?

P.S. I am not an idiot... nice try though.
Can no one else see whether their sidestand is down or not in diagnostics mode?

Sorry, my bad.

I can see the output in the diagnostic mode...but it has no clue whether it is down or not. It just keeps reading 0 or 1 (can't remember). This value is used in the ECM to allow the bike to run in gear.

Has anyone confirmed that the hooks break? They seem pretty stout to me, although they aren't much of a hook, more like a half circle. I bent my upper hook tighter, because in the up position, i could see that hook slipping off the upper spring retainer.

Parts arrived from Australia today (awesome).. That's 5 days door-to-door from the other side of the planet and Harley reckon another 4 weeks for theirs to come in LOL..

Yay - I can fit it all tonight and ignore the lack of interlock and EM light..
