As mentioned in another thread, I installed my FMF Apex exhaust on Veteran's Day last Wednesday and found that I was missing the two springs. I called FMF that day and they said they would mail some out to me right away. No questions asked. Just received the two springs today. A big thank you to FMF for the prompt and courteous customer service. If any of you are sitting on the fence I wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of these from a Bad Web sponsor. I also second that they are a great company to work with! Their full exhaust system makes comparable power to the Buell Race pipe as well. It rolls over a little faster on the very top though and is quite a bit louder. | ||

i installed it. sounds good. a little louder than i thought it would be without the cone insert but i am leaving it out. | ||

hows your bike running with the fmf? did you install an aftermarket tune? or stock set up? thanks, waiting to pull the trigger. | ||

i am just running the stock map right now. runs fine as far as i can tell since the bike is not completely broken in yet (500 miles). mine is idling high but was doing that before I put the pipe on. will be taking it to the dealer so they can look at that. | ||

FWIW, the missing springs didn't keep me from riding it. I installed it using good old Permatex high heat grey and let it cure overnight. Rode it for the few days it took to get the springs and no movement at the joint, no leaks, etc. Seems like the springs are just an added layer and not 100% necessary. Nels | ||

I am still waiting delivery of my new CR and have been "window shopping" for exhaust. I am not really interested in a full pipe. Anyone have any first hand feedback/recommendations regarding the FMF Apex compared to the Jardine? I am leaning toward the FMF. Do they both come with a removable "dB killer"? Sound quality/volume, performance...? This forum ROCKS! Thanks | ||

Crazy, I can't speak for the Jardine but the FMF comes with a stainless steel reducer cone that can be installed between the muffler and midpipe. Can be installed with 'reducing' the exhaust flow into the muffler for reduced sound or flipped into the midpipe for even more sound reduction. Not sure how effective either method is since I didn't bother installing it. Nels | ||

Forerunner, Appreciate the input. Without the reducer how loud would you say the FMF is? Also sound quality? I am US Military stationed in Germany and they are tough on the annual safety inspection, when it comes to exhaust. Sounds like the reducer would fix that for the inspection anyway. | ||

Crazy, Disclaimer: Volume and quality are extremely subjective. The open FMF is definitely louder than stock but not too loud IMO however I would not feel comfortable riding it anywhere were noise ordinances were enforced. Don't know how much the reducer would quiet things down. Sound is deeper than stock and on startup there is a loud WHOOMF from all the static air in the system being violently and aggressively evacuated. Sorry can't be of more help. Nels | ||

Got my FMF last week - no springs either! And it says to mount them in the instructions too. At least it did come with the proprietary screws and hardware that would be more difficult to find if they were not included. I installed my reducer cone in the "less volume" position instead of the "maximum quietness" position and I must say it's pretty damn loud still. Another question: what about the AFVs with this pipe? I just checked and am running 116 front and 105 rear. Is this bad? I'm thinking about doing a track day on Monday and would this be bad for the motor? Thanks in advance. Jeff | ||
