picked up a new 09 1125R saturday, rode it saturday and i got one check engine light not soon after i left and i pulled over and checked it and it was the battery - the dealer told me they had to put a battery in it before i took it, so i figured it was just a little low and needed to be ridden to charge - it was great all day and later that night the bike sat for about 2 hours and it wouldnt turn over, starter wasnt even engaging - jumped it off today, and it took a while - all the lights and cluster and beyond flickering while running and the bike ran for about 5 minutes and died on its own - (batt voltage read 13.3 on cluster)

so to the question - if i go buy one and put it in will they reimburse me?

I would call them man...don't ever buy with good intentions. I know it's common sense for us to think they would just give ya the cash for it. But you need to get a hold of the dealer and see if they are willing to do that first.

In a word, No. Take it to your dealer. Yeah its a PITA but they need to verify the the problem. You may have other stuff that needs to be replaced; stator, etc.

There may be something else going on, but if it is the battery, it should be warrantable unless it is sulfated. Either way, a good dealer would take care of it.

problem is, its not really rideable, idles very rough, and if it dies out on the road im SOL, and i need it for work in the morning - all my Buells have been a pain in the @$$ the first weekend, after that its smooth sailing

im about to take the battery to get it tested - ill keep you updated - the shop has my CR for little warranty things or i would just ride that

FYI these bikes need to be plugged in to a battery tender when you aren't riding it. Especially if you have the security system on.

ive never had problems with my CR not being on a tender, and my bike rarely sits, its my transportation 95% of the time

Kevin,
I picked up a CR from Allen HD as did a few of my friends. All of our Batts were DOA. I called Travis at the dealer and he was telling me that they were all dead on the floor before we bought them and they hadn't anticipated the rush to buy the bikes. I have had mine on a tender for the last two days and it is doing fine.

I bet they will work something out for ya.

to the late night gurus still up - the battery tender is now saying that the battery is 80% charged - turn the key and all i get is a buzz from the "key switch" relay, no cluster, no lights, no nothing - i tried replacing it with the "aux" relay and it did the same thing - this sounds like it could be a grounding issue - battery connections are good and tight, where are the "major" ground points in the system?

if you have a battery CHARGER put it on its highest setting(probably 12 amps) and wait about 30min-1hour, and she should fire right up, then take it for a short (high rpm) ride to fully charge the battery, if that dont work either the stator or the battery is fried..

riden,
did that last night at work - batt was still dead after - i put a meter on it and it read 14.5 with the charger on and as soon as i took it off it dropped to 10.5 and was trickling down

took battery to dealer this morning, the tester said charge and retest i told them it had been charging - so they sold me a new battery for $103 i took it home, she fired right up then i had to take the bike and old battery back up there so they could "verify" it was the battery but all they did was retest the old battery - WTF?! - anyways, i got a refund for the new battery and shes up and running again, voltage is around 13.8-14.1 while running and riding - not as high as the CR but my CR only has 1 HID running and an LED taillight so its drawing less

i jumped through Mr. Davidsons hoops but I am back on the road, and ill be 4 hours late for work but i told them yesterday haha

A lot of times these bikes sit on the showroom floor for months without being touched and the batteries start to sulfate. The battery tender will say it is charged but it still seems weak. If you check it with a voltmeter, sometimes you'll notice it has good voltage but no amps or low amps. This means it is time for a new battery.
