ok bike always ran a little warm so after reading a couple post that said to check resivoir I did and it was empty so i filled it to the full line. Now since then everytime i ride the bike (here in az its at lease 105 right now) the bike pukes out all the coolant and runs way hot. So im guessing i have an air bubble or something in the system. I dont have the workshop manual yet can somebody please help with how to clear the air bubble or if i have something else wrong? it ran fine before i added the resevoir water.

Need input...!

First question -
did you use distilled water?

If the reservoir was empty...you most likely have air in the system.

Cold or cool...remove the radiator cap. Start the engine, let it fully warm. the radiator water level should be right at the top of the tank.

In order, while still warm -
Fill the radiator...fill the overflow tank, put the cap on tight.
Let it fully cool.
Check the overflow tank level, it should have dropped a little. Refill as required.

I use a mixture of about 20% antifreeze and 80% distilled water.
Ethylene glycol doesn't transfer heat very well, the water does. Use just enough to lube the water pump and keep corrosion at bay.

Thanks a lot i actually had to figure it out last night and luckily it looks like i did it right. Update ; ) went for a ride all last night in stop and go traffic (still 102 outside at 8 pm) and would sit about 200, once moving would drop down to 194ish which im happy with for now since it wasn't puking fluid all over me when i stopped. Thank you for your help though, now that i know i dont have a problem im probally going to switch out to engine ice, does anybody know what the capacity is?? Thanks again.

Does everyone with 200 CTs have the latest flash? I don't think I have seen my CR get above 130F with an outside temp of 95. It hangs out about 105-110F at speed.

No mods other than denoiding.

105-110?!?!?! That is nuts. Mine runs at 170-180 and the fans are on constantly. They run for 30-60 seconds after shut down too. That is in 75-85 degree weather.

Orman -

130F,..105-110F............?

Sorry...not happening...at least if everything is working correctly.
That's still on the cold idle system...!
150F is still on the cold idle system. The bike doesn't even run correctly until it's at least 160F.

If that's what you see...I'd be for looking into getting it fixed. Either the readout or the temp. sender.

Anony said "Please do not use propylene glycol based coolant in your 1125."

Im also in AZ and am always hovering around 220 when sitting in traffic and the AT is around 100. Itll climb to 130 on occasion but drops 10-20 when I get some sustained speed. Wonder if I need to check my coolant.

Im curious what this bike will run here in AZ when its winter and a nice dry 60 degrees.

No way orman, I call shenanigans.
+1 to adding water wetter when you redo the coolant, stuff really works.

So its ok to add water wetter but not use engine ice? I dont want to start a huge war on here i just dont want to mess anything up. Im okay with it being around 200 ct seeing that it is 110 outside, i know you cant cool off with hot air..clbofaz we should get together sometime for a ride we always do mt lemon on thursday nights, if interested pm me. and yea in the winter im pretty sure our bikes are going to pick up a decent amount of hp just based on the weather. Thanks again.

Orman - 105 to 130F? the CT will not read that low. I think your looking at the AT (ambient temp) not the CT (Coolant temp) readout. The Coolant temp readout flashes "COLD" until 156 or 158F I think. At least it does on my 08. They also have the AT sensor in a bad spot because mine is about 10 to 15 degrees high even when moving. All that Black plastic cooking in the sun may have something to do with it. We have had a fairly cool summer so far here in Ohio, hardly any 90 degree days. The hottest I have seen my CT in stop and go traffic is about 205F. Highway travel at 75 to 80 MPH is about 175F.

Drop, no issues with water wetter. We just added it to the factory coolant mix, 8-10 cap fulls iirc.

The owner's manual and service manual both state to use the Harley coolant OR a mixture of deionized water and ethylene glycol. Seems clear to me.

lol and the factory manual also says only use factory authorized harley davidson motor oil..of corse they arent going to endorse a product that is not theirs. I'm just saying, just like i work for hyundai and mazda and the only hyundai atf fluid that we let you use is the hyundai spfIII, but it is the exact same stuff as the valvoline high milage (which is what we use in the shop).

A lot of other companies provide ethylene glycol other than the Harley stuff and the service manual says that that's okay so it's not a money grubbing thing.

Right. Like I pointed out in my last post. Deionized water and ethylene glycol. I'm just saying that the manual is clear on what TO use, which should make it clear on what NOT to use.

As far as Anony, he was checked out and deemed credible by credible people running the site here. Granted, some may want more, but that's the best were going to get and seems sufficient given the circumstances.

Besides, the manual states what TO do and I doubt its one of those instanced of "heres what we tell you to do" then you can read and know what you "can" do. Kinda like the shifting speeds in the manual, who the heck runs it that low, even when its new?

When I toured the factory at this years homecoming I noticed that they were puting "Peak Extended Service" antifreez in the new 1125 bikes.

Instead of water wetter, I'd use less antifreeze and more water.

Why not move the AT sensor to a better location. maybe the bike would cruise better if the air temp was more accurate. I assume the air temp affects the amount of fuel and colder temps mean more fuel, correct?
